Why Is Christiane Paul Leaving FBI International?

By Emily Bell

Why Is Christiane Paul Leaving FBI International? FBI: International made its return with a thrilling Season 2 set in Paris. There were a lot of things taking place than just what was happening in France, such as Christiane Paul’s exit as Jaeger at the very end of Season 1. Christiane Paul, on the other hand, returned to FBI: International for a Season 2 episode that becomes personal for Katrin Jaeger.

From the moment Europol agent Katrin Jaeger gained promotion in the first season finale of FBI: International, viewers wondered if the promotion would put at risk Jaeger’s future on the television series.

Sure, there wasn’t quite a clear-cut exit plot, but with Jarger taking a new job where she would no more see her serve as a direct link with the Fly Team, there was definitely cause for concern. Unfortunately, the plot was intended to be an exit plot, as Christiane Paul left the series as a series regular, and even when she returns, she will only be making brief appearances.

Why Is Christiane Paul Leaving FBI International?

‘FBI: International’s first season ended on May 24, 2022. And we got the news in July 2022 that Paul was expected to leave the show. Katrin Jaeger gained an unexpected promotion to managing all of Western Europe in the first finale of FBI: International, despite nearly losing her career due to a nasty agent. Jaeger quit the team after receiving the promotion and no longer acted as the Fly Team’s liaison.

With the departure of Jaeger to a greater position with Europol, FBI: International welcomed an entirely new liaison for our Fly team in the form of Eva-Jane Willis’ Megan Garretson. Garretson was best known as a street-savvy Europol agent with serious undercover experience. She joined the Fly unit as their new liaison for helping with the host countries from where the team would operate.

The reason for Christiane Paul Leaving FBI International was addressed in the premiere of the Second Season, ‘Unburdened.’ We meet Jaeger’s substitute, Megan Garretson, who was working on a case with International Fly Team head Scott Forrester that has grown into a study material at the Quantico academy.

Basically, the show told us that Christiane Paul left FBI International just because her character “Jaeger” was promoted and was sent off to a different place.

While Jaeger will be missed after contributing to making FBI: International a hit in the very first season, Smitty appears to be a good substitute. The television show also has lots of room to experiment with this new character.

Christiane Paul’s Return In FBI: International Season 2

Fans of FBI: International was happy to see another appearance of Christiane Paul as the Europol agent Katrin Jaeger in season two. Following season one, it was reported that Christiane would not be coming back as a season regular, while we still did not know whether she would make any more appearances in the show. But now that we have her appearance in one of the episodes of the second season, we can expect more of her in future seasons.

In the episode where Jaeger returns, she opens up to Scott about her own family’s background story as part of the inquiry into the assassination of a former Stasi agent in East Germany. She grew up in East Berlin and recalled her family as very joyful until her father discovered a listening device in their living room.

When she was seven years old, her dad took her to a park, set her in a seating area, and left to get some hot chocolate, only to never come back. He left them and fled through the wall. Her mother was jailed on suspicion of participation, and her family fell apart.

But it turns out that the man who sent Jaeger on her current path, Simon, was the Stasi director. His arrest is part of the case, and he pulls his revolver on himself, only to find no bullets. Jaeger later reveals to Jamie that she was hoping he’d do it. After telling Simon that nobody on this earth will remember him, Jaeger is accompanied by Scott to the seating area where her father left her.

Given that there is a possibility for her future return, it appears that she is leaving on a positive note. It’s logical to conclude that the 48-year-old star left the show to explore different opportunities.
