He said that the gunshot didn’t kill him because he was wearing a Kevlar vest. He also thought that Stover was wearing the same vest, but he was wrong.
The jury didn’t believe him because his story didn’t make sense. So, they still decided he was guilty. He was sentenced to 26.5 years in prison.
Michael Oakes is currently serving his time at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla. But several sources say that he might be able to leave early.
