When is the last day to get one?

By Isabella Wilson

What is the best thing about St Patrick’s Day? The Guinness? The parties? The dancing? No, it’s the Shamrock Shake of course!

The famous drink arrived at McDonald’s on February 21st and was available leading up to St Patrick’s Day 2022.

With the Irish holiday firmly over for another year, is it too late to get your hands on one? Read on to find out…

What is a Shamrock Shake?

The iconic Shamrock Shake is a green, mint flavoured milkshake that arrives on the menu every year to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

Blended with vanilla ice cream and topped with whipped cream, it’s a firm favourite amongst McDonald’s fans.

It was first made in 1967 by Connecticut-based McDonald’s owner Hal Rosen and has now been sold in McDonald’s restaurants for over 50 years.

McDonald’s customers in America and Ireland eagerly await the launch of the Shamrock Shake and it’s a heartbreaking moment when it gets removed from the menu for another year.

Shamrock Shake end date 2022

The official end date for the Shamrock Shake is always St Patrick’s Day, which is always observed on March 17th.

After this date, you may still be able to get one of the famous drinks, but this will vary by store.

In many locations, the drink remains available for a few days after the Irish holiday. However, this isn’t always the case.

Some people have reported that their local McDonald’s is still selling Shamrock Shakes today.

However, in other areas, the special menu item has already been removed.

After March 17th, there are no guarantees that you will be able to get your hands on a Shamrock Shake.

However, if McDonald’s stores still have the ingredients in stock, they are likely to continue selling them until they run out.

The Shamrock McFlurry is gone too

The same rules apply for the Shamrock McFlurry which isn’t officially available after March 17th either.

However, you may still be able to get your hands in one in selected stores with availability.

The popular menu item consists of the fast-food chain’s famous vanilla soft serve ice cream with minty Shamrock Shake syrup and OREO cookie pieces.

It first arrived on the McDonald’s menu in 2020 and has returned every year since.
