The best strategies to win at Wordle
If you want to win every time, here are some strategies you should follow…
- Choose a good starting word. E.g. one with lots of vowels or five different letters. Find a list of them here.
- Get the vowels in the right place first as this will make it easier to fill in the other letters.
- Guess words that contain common letters. The most frequent letters in the English language are E, T, A, I, N, O, S and R.
- Make sure you use American spellings as this is what Wordle uses. E.g. ‘color’ and ‘favor’ are five-letter words.
- Don’t just try and guess the word using the letters you’ve placed, eliminate other letters from the keyboard first.
- Remember that yellow or green letters can appear more than once in the word but Wordle won’t tell you.
- Don’t think too obscure as Wordle tends to favour more ‘normal’ words.

How to play Wordle

If you’re struggling to get the Wordle answer, let’s go over the rules one more time.
The aim of the game is to guess a five letter word in six or less attempts.
Every time you guess a word, the tiles will change colour which tells you whether that letter is in the word or not.
If a tile turns green, that means it’s the right letter in the correct position.
However, if it turns yellow, the letter is in the word but in a different place.
When a tile turns grey, the letter is not in the word at all.
The tiles will also change colour on the keyboard at the bottom, making it easy to see which letters you’ve already tried.
