Snoop Dogg's blue bandana tracksuit and Crip Walk honour street gang

By Robert King

During his incredible performance at Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime show, Snoop Dogg honoured the famous California street gang he was once a member of.

The American rapper sang alongside Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar in what many have described as the best halftime show ever.

During the fifteen-minute performance, the five iconic artists sang some of their most famous tracks in the middle of California’s SoFi Stadium, and it was certainly a show to remember.

Snoop Dogg opened the performance by singing his Dr. Dre track The Next Episode and his bizarre outfit choice and dance moves have a very significant meaning.

Snoop Dogg’s Super Bowl outfit draws attention

For the most iconic performance of his career to date, Snoop Dogg chose an interesting outfit.

The 50-year-old sported a blue and yellow bandana-style tracksuit that consisted of a round neck sweater and matching joggers.

He paired the outfit, which was covered in a white paisley pattern, with sunglasses and a stack of large chains.

On his feet, he wore white converse with bright yellow laces, and people can’t stop laughing about the fit on Twitter.

The tracksuit has been likened to Aladdin’s carpet from the famous Disney movie, but its meaning goes far deeper than that.

Blue bandana references famous street gang

The blue bandana is actually a symbol of the African-American California street gang Rollin 20 Crips, which Snoop Dogg was part of.

Founded in 1969 in Los Angeles, The Crips are one of the largest and most violent associations of street gangs in the United States.

They have thousands of members across America and traditionally wear blue clothes and bandanas.

Rumours are flooding Twitter that Snoop Dogg was told by the NFL that he was not allowed to wear a blue bandana or show his affiliation with the gang.

It’s unclear whether this is actually true, but the tracksuit certainly seems like Snoop’s way of paying homage to the famous street gang that he was once a member of.

He did the Crip Walk too

During his performance, Snoop Dogg also did a certain dance move that was a reference to the Long Beach gang.

He made a ‘C’ symbol with his hand before doing the famous Crip Walk, also known as the C Walk, which is associated with members of The Crips.

The dance move, which involves spelling out a word with your feet, was established by the gang in the 1970s.

It has now made its way into mainstream media, and the dance routine is often seen on TikTok, but its origins still lie with the Rollin 20 Crips.
