Rey Mysterio’s Early Life

Oscar Gutierrez was the original name given to Rey Mysterio when he was born on December 11th, 1974 in Chula Vista, California, in the United States. It is unknown a great deal about his parents; nevertheless, he received his early wrestling instruction from his well-known uncle Rey Misterio Sr., who was a professional wrestler and trainer.

Career Of Rey Mysterio

In the year 1989, when he was just fourteen years old, Rey Mysterio made his debut in the country of Mexico. Between the years 1992 and 1995, he was engaged in a conflict with the Mexican organization known as Asistencia Asesora y Administración (Assistance, Assessment, and Administration).
Later that year (1995), he secured a contract to wrestle for “Extreme Championship Wrestling.” The following year, he was offered a contract with ‘World Championship Wrestling,’ and he accepted it. At the beginning of his run at the Great American Bash, he squared up against the reigning Cruiserweight Champion Dean Malenko, however Malenko came out on top of the bout. The majority of Mysterio’s bouts were against high-flying competitors such as Ultimate Dragon, Juventud Guerrera, Billy Kidman, and Psicosis, his lifelong adversary, whom he finally triumphed over in July 1996 at ‘Bash at the Beach.’
Very quickly after that, in July of 1996, Rey Mysterio battled Malenko once more and won his first Cruiserweight Championship by defeating his opponent. He held the title of champion for a period of three months. During this time, he was forced to defend his championship against a number of opponents, including Ultimate Dragon, Super Caló, and finally Malenko himself.
After eventually losing to Malenko at the Halloween Havoc, Mysterio was ultimately unsuccessful in defending his title. In later years, he eventually challenged Ultimate Dragon for the J-Crown Championship, which took place in November 1996. On the other hand, he did not prevail.
After facing off against Guerrero in 1997 and emerged victorious, Rey successfully defended his Cruiserweight Championship title and won it for a second time that year. However, Guerrero won the fight against him in November, and as a result, Guerrero was awarded the title once again.
After defeating Juventud in a match in January 1998, Rey Mysterio successfully defended his Cruiserweight Championship title and won it for the third time. After nine days, he was defeated by Chris Jericho and lost the title.
Later on in that same year, he teamed up with Billy Kidman to compete in the Latino World Order tag team tournament. Later on, Mysterio engaged Kidman in a bout for the Cruiserweight Championship; however, he was unsuccessful in regaining the title.
In 1999, after Mysterio and his tag team partner Konnan were defeated in a “Hair vs. Mask match” that he contested against Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, Mysterio was compelled to remove his mask in order to avoid further embarrassment. He voiced his profound dissatisfaction at having his identity revealed and claimed that he had only taken it off because he was left with no other option.
In 2002, he made his debut with WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), sporting a new mask that was an improvement over his previous one. Following his victories over a variety of competitors, including Chavo Guerrero, Kurt Angle, and Big Show, he eventually rebuilt his tag team with Billy Kidman.
In the latter part of 2005, he formed a tag team with Eddie Guerrero and eventually won those belts together. However, Guerrero harbored deep-seated feelings of envy for Rey because he had never been successful in defeating him. As a result, he betrayed him when they were competing, and then, after leaving him for dead, he attacked Rey as well. The “jealousy and feuding” that took place during WrestleMania was part of a storyline that was designed to pique the curiosity of the audience.
During this time, as a result of his frustration, Guerrero divulged a secret that they had discussed concerning Rey’s son Dominick; this, too, was a plot point in the story. Dominick’s biological father, Guerrero, had abandoned him and his mother, Mysterio, when Dominick was a newborn so that he could be raised by Mysterio. They decided to determine who would get custody of him by having a ladder match, and Rey emerged triumphant. After some time, Guerrero was able to triumph against Rey, which brought an end to their long-running rivalry.
In the end, Rey Mysterio prevailed over Randy Orton and took home the title of World Heavyweight Champion in the year 2006. After this, a conflict began between John “Bradshaw” Layfield and Rey Mysterio because Layfield claimed that he should have been the one to hold the World Heavyweight Title. Mysterio, on the other hand, believed that he should have the title.
As a direct consequence of this, Rey was forced to compete against three adversaries handpicked by Bradshaw. Although he lost the match, he went on to defend his championship successfully against Bradshaw in a later match.
In the latter part of the year 2009, Rey Mysterio presented Bradshaw with a challenge for his Intercontinental Championship. After only twenty-one seconds, Rey was able to defeat his opponent, which led to him becoming the 21st Triple Crown Champion in the history of World Wrestling Entertainment.
Mysterio competed in a tournament for the WWE Championship back in 2011, when it was held. He competed against The Miz in the championship match, which he won. Rey was victorious and captured his very first WWE Championship in the process. However, later that day, John Cena defeated him, and he was stripped of his title. Later on, in attempt to regain his title, he engaged in a bout against Alberto Del Rio, who had recently been crowned champion. Despite this, Mysterio did not prevail.
After his lengthy run with WWE came to an end in 2015, he was re-signed by Asistencia Asesora y Administración the following year. At the moment, he is working with Lucha Underground, having inked a contract with them back in December of 2015.
Awards & Achievements
Rey Mysterio has been victorious in a number of championships during the course of his career. Some of them include the “Mexican National Welterweight Championship” (which he has won only once), the “WCW Cruiserweight Championship” (which he has won five times), the “WWE World Heavyweight Championship” (which he has won twice), the “WWE Tag Team Championship” (which he has won four times), and the “WWE Championship” (won once).
Personal History and Family Traditions
Dominick and Aalyah Mysterio are Rey Mysterio’s son and daughter, respectively; they were born to him and his wife, Angie. He has tattooed their names all over his body in a scribbled font.
He is a passionate follower of Roman Catholicism and is seen making the sign of the cross before match.

Despite this, there are a few images available that show Mysterio without his mask. In this article, there will be several photographs showing his face without the mask.

Mask versus hair was the theme of the bout that took place in February 1999 between Rey Mysterio and Kanon against Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. Mysterio and Kanon were defeated, and the match’s condition required that Rey Mysterio remove one of his masks while in the middle of the ring as punishment for their loss.

Mysterio joined WWE the following year, in 2002, and shortly after, Vince McMahon requested that Rey Mysterio continue to wrestle while wearing his mask. This was because Mysterio had signed a contract with McMahon’s organization.

Since Rey Mysterio’s masks are consistently among the most popular items purchased at WWE events, it would appear that Vince McMahon made the right choice when he requested that the former WWE Champion continue to wrestle while wearing his mask after signing with the company.
