Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: Hyper Training Guide

Hyper Training is a postgame feature in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that enables Trainers to increase the IVs of their pocket monsters. This mechanic allows players to customize their favorite Pokémon and further enhance their stats for improved performance in combat. For instance, if Trainers have a Baxcalibur with an innate high Attack IV and wish to further increase this IV stat to the max, they do so through Hyper Training. As a result, Baxcalibur and other Hyper Trained pocket monsters will be even more powerful to take on the challenging postgame Tera Raid opponents at the highest of tiers.

Before Trainers consider performing Hyper Training for their Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, it is essential that they first unlock the Judge function. For those unfamiliar, the Judge function allows players to see their pocket monster’s hidden Individual Values. With this ability, players can view every detail of their favorite Pokémon’s stats to make proper decisions regarding which IVs should be Hyper Trained. To unlock this mechanic, Trainers must complete all of the main questlines in the game; in other words, reaching the postgame content is a mandatory requirement.

How Hyper Training Works in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Once this feat has been achieved, the Pokécenter staff in any location will recognize the Trainer protagonist’s Hall of Fame Badge and reward them with the Judge function in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. After acquiring this ability, the next step is knowing where Hyper Training takes place. According to the YouTube channel RageGamingVideos, an unnamed NPC can be found behind the Pokécenter in Montenevera in North Paldea. Trainers can recognize this NPC by his buzz cut, large shades, pilot jacket, and pet Abomasnow. Speaking with this Gen 9 character will trigger the prompt to begin Hyper Training, enabling players to choose which IVs they would like to increase for their pocket monsters.

Of course, Hyper Training is not available for free in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The Abomasnow Trainer in Montenevera will require a currency known as Bottle Caps, which come in two forms. Normal Bottle Caps can be spent to increase a single IV for a Pokémon, while Gold Bottle Caps increase all IVs for a Pokémon within a single Hyper Training session. Bottle Caps can be purchased from Delibird Presents during the postgame or occasionally earned in high-tier Tera Raids. Gold Bottle Caps can also be acquired from high-tier Raids but drop at a much lower rate. They cannot be purchased at shops, but players might find a pair offered at Porto Marinada’s auctions if they are lucky in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
