Orion Charger Logan Lee signs with the Hawkeyes
It was a special day at Orion High School as they had a big time signing day ceremony.
Football star Logan Lee, the talented tight end, will be going to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes and track star Danielle Taets will be off to Illinois State.
Two tremendous athletes in Orion getting ready for their next exciting chapters.
“From the very beginning I knew that was the place for me,” Lee said. “I really like their coaching staff. I got along well with them, I like the way they coach, I really like their strength and conditioning staff. I really think it is the best in the country, so I really really looked into that stuff and those were the main things that helped me with my decision. Since a very young age I have had my goals in place and this is just a stepping stone I have always pushed myself not to dwell on anything but I am enjoying this right now.
“I visited a couple of colleges, and to be honest, I visited Illinois State first and it just felt like home,” Taets said. “I loved the team, I loved the coaches, just everything about it just made it pretty official. So I have worked a lot and put a lot of work in the offseason and my teammates pushed me and everyone just pushes each other which makes it all possible.”
In Iowa City, Hawkeyes head coach Kirk Ferentz met the media to talk about his recruits, including Lee.
The 2019 recruiting class is pretty typical for Iowa.
The Hawkeyes achieved their third straight top 40 ranking by national recruiting sites and had seven players who play either tight end or offensive line out of the 20 signees.
“You meet him, he’s a really impressive young man with a great mom and dad, and they were over here early and often,” Ferentz said. “The coach came with him, too, and that was neat. Just everything about it was really positive, and a big part of recruiting is either — your message — more importantly, what they’re exposed to on campus, it either resonates or it doesn’t. In this case I think it really kind of resonated right off the bat and he’s a big, aggressive guy who I think can probably help us in a couple different spots, but we’re going to start him at tight end because we’re losing two really good ones here within the next 14 months if not sooner.”
The other position of note is linebacker and specifically Ohio native Jestin Jacobs. Jacobs had more than 15 Power 5 offers, including one from the in-state Buckeyes, but instead elected to stick with his commitment to Ferentz and the Hawkeyes.
