One Piece episode 1054 release date confirmed after marathon delay
One Piece episode 1054 has sadly been delayed in Japan, but what date and time will the new episode now release worldwide?
The One Piece franchise remains a staple of the weekend to-do list for millions of manga readers and anime fans around the world.
Last week, there were not one, but two Luffy-shaped holes in our schedule last weekend with confirmation that both the original manga and anime adaptation had been delayed – unfortunately, the anime will not resume this weekend either.
So, why is the One Piece anime delayed once again, and on what date will episode 1054 now release around the world?
One Piece episode 1054 release date delayed worldwide
One Piece episode 1054 has had its domestic broadcast in Japan delayed, meaning that the anime will not be airing its latest episode internationally this weekend as many fans may have expected.
The upcoming delay is due to TV coverage of the Tokyo and Nagoya marathons, which are set to take place in the broadcast slots typically occupied by the iconic anime series; rather than moving the One Piece anime to another slot, the decision was made to postpone the broadcast.
The good news is that the official One Piece Anime Twitter page has confirmed that episode 1054 will now release on Sunday, March 19.
One Piece episode 1054 will be made available to stream via Crunchyroll at the following international times:
- Pacific Time – 7 PM (March 18)
- Eastern Time – 10 PM (March 18)
- British Time – 2 AM (March 19)
- European Time – 3 AM (March 19)
- India Time – 7:30 AM (March 19)
- Philippine Time – 10 AM (March 19)
- Australia Eastern Daylight Time – 1 PM (March 19)
The upcoming episode is reportedly set to be titled ‘Death to Your Partner – Killer’s Deadly Gamble’.
Thankfully, the One Piece manga series is set to return this weekend following its own hiatus, with chapter 1077 set to release on Sunday, March 12.
Controversy brews as Oda shares AI One Piece chapter
There has been plenty of controversy in recent months about AI-generated artwork, but the potential of using artificial intelligence to enhance projects has not been lost on One Piece mangaka, Eiichiro Oda.
Oda posted a video of a message thread he had with the AI platform ChatGPT, in which he asks the AI to write a new chapter of the One Piece manga series.
According to a translation by Anime Hunch, the first half of the AI chapter focused on the ‘King of Shadows’ taking Chopper hostage, with the Straw Hats being forced into yet another battle to gain their beloved doctor back.
The second half of the chapter is where the limitations of the platform are showcased, with a rather dysfunctional plot around aliens visiting the Straw Hats and forming an alliance to stop a pending alien invasion.
Whilst there were a large number of negative posts criticizing Oda for this online, many within the community were aware that this was in all likelihood only an interesting thought experiment to see what the AI-generated compared to the legendary mangaka himself.
Eiichiro Oda wins Shin Watanabe Award
Last week, it was also revealed that One Piece author Eiichiro Oda had won the coveted Shin Watanabe Award; the 18th annual prize for his work on the manga and the Red theatrical movie.
As shared by Comic Natalie, Oda was recognized not only for the success of the One Piece manga, “but also for his attitude and ability to comprehensively produce and execute the planning, production, and promotion of the film.”
Oda would share a special message with his fans in response to winning the award, noting that he was “honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award from such a distinguished list of names.”
“I wonder how far a single work such as “ONE PIECE”, which started 25 years ago in a small room with a single sheet of paper, can entertain people until today. Now, 25 years later, after having seen it, I feel that “RED” was a combination of the best entertainment I could do and all factors and people I have met in the past.”
Oda would continue, “Without resting on our laurels, we would like to continue with our efforts to produce even greater ‘time-killers’.”
“I am really happy that this award recognized a mangaka from the perspective of a producer. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone involved in this award and to all those who support “ONE PIECE”. Thank you very much!!”
