Noise ordinance vote gets tabled in Silvis

By Emily Bell
Some people in Silvis want to get a handle on the noise. Tuesday, City Council tabled a proposal to limit some outdoor events. There was a lot of disagreement on the noise ordinance which would have originally limited outside amplified live music to three days a year. Many residents of Silivis packed City Hall Tuesday night as there was passionate discussion both for and against the ordinance. Most of the issue comes from The Doc’s Inn on Avenue of the Cities in Silvis.  Neighbors complain that when there is live music, it becomes much too loud and it disturbs the peace. Some neighbors say that the noise is okay with them though because they know it means business is being brought into the city. There was not enough concensus to make the vote tonight so it was recommended the table the issue until more discussion of a compromise can happen.   “I have definitely made adjustments and I think that pretty much every body on the council understands that I’ve made [them]. And I think they’re being fair about it right now,” said John Stopoulos, wwner of The Doc’s Inn.   People on both sides of the issue say they are content with talking more to come to a compromise. Most just say they wish a decision would come sooner rather than later.
