Lionel Scaloni is an Argentine-born former soccer player and professional soccer coach. He is the current coach of the Argentine national team. He was a former soccer player who spent most of his professional career with the Spanish soccer club Deportivo La Coruña, primarily as a right midfielder.

How did you become the coach of the Argentine national team?

Scaloni went on to coach the Argentina under-20 team after retiring from football. He was allowed to stay on as interim manager for six months. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) phoned him when they were in L’Alcudia for the Under-20 tournament and asked him if he could supervise two matches.

Pablo Aimar was with him at the time and informed Scaloni that if he left, Pablo would accompany him. Scaloni said that coaching Argentina’s under-20 team was a prize, as was coaching the Argentine team. It was done for them up until that point, and they didn’t know anything before they were assigned the job. Scaloni was appointed manager of the Argentine national team in 2018. He guided the team to the Copa América championship in 2021 following a 1-0 win against Brazil. He also guided the team to a berth in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
