How to bookmark posts on instagram

Instagram will now let you save your favorite posts from its service for later viewing via a new bookmarking button that appears below the posts in your feed. The idea is that there are times you’ll encounter content you’ll want to revisit – including, perhaps, a product you want to buy from one of Instagram’s advertisers. By tapping the bookmarking button, you’ll be able to more easily locate these items in a new, private tab on your profile at a later point.

In its announcement, Instagram suggests you could use the feature for those times when you “stumble upon a funny video you want to remember, a new outfit you like or even inspiration for an upcoming vacation.”

Those latter two items position the app as something of a challenge to the image and link-saving pinboard site, Pinterest, which also focuses on inspiring users ahead of their eventual purchases.

By allowing this same sort of activity to take place on Instagram, where it can also be tied into more extensive profile data from the service and from parent company Facebook, Instagram will be able to learn more about users’ interests, even before they make a transaction. This could eventually help with ad targeting, as the data set becomes more robust.

The company is already touting the new feature to potential advertisers, explaining that it could be used by people who want to remember a post about their business.

Also of note on this front: Instagram recently began testing tying a business’s Instagram profile page directly to their Facebook presence, via a new feature that puts a link to their Facebook page at the bottom of their bios. Facebook confirmed the test, but declined to comment further.

Additionally, the new feature is similar to Facebook’s own “Save” option, which is often used with links and videos you want to go back to read or watch later. On Instagram, being able to bookmark videos could also lead to increased app engagement from users who will go back to watch and rewatch their favorite content.

Instagram says the bookmarking icon is rolling out now in version 10.2 of its mobile app for iOS and Android. It will arrive on Windows 10 in the coming weeks.

Seems potentially creepy?

How to bookmark posts on instagram

I recently moved into a new apartment, and Instagram has been a useful tool for gathering interior decoration ideas and inspirations. When I come across a cool wallpaper or clever storage setup, I simply like the post and find them all neatly displayed in my Liked Photos tab.

And while I’m sure Instagram’s new feature — which now allows you to bookmark posts to view later — has a similar intent, something about it seems just a touch creepy.

How to bookmark posts on instagram

An app update today will bring a bookmark button under each Instagram photo. You can click on it to save the post and send it off to a gallery that only you can see at a later time. It’s essentially a curated version of Liked Photos.

There are many people like myself who use Instagram in lieu of Pinterest — if you’re already using it to catalog your digital life, why bother signing up for another account on yet another app, right? But many of these same people also use Instagram as a means to downright stalk people, and the ability to bookmark a whole gallery of said people is basically screenshot creeping made easy. Instagram tells us you will not be notified if someone has bookmarked your post.

It’s human to browse through your crush’s Instagram feed, it’s definitively weirder if you’re then bookmarking his selfies but only the ones where he’s holding a cat. I know Instagram means well, but man, consider your inner stalkers enabled.

Opinion: You can use Instagram as an idea collection app

How to bookmark posts on instagram

Have you ever considered using Instagram as more than just a photo- and video-sharing application? What if I told you that you can use Instagram as an idea collection app, where you can save all of the photos and videos you like in a private album, which you can access later to find inspiration when you’re in need?

Let me introduce Instagram bookmarks, the feature that helps you save your posts in different, private collections.

This feature is a great way to do research and find some inspirational ideas and moods that can help you do a better job.

Let’s say that you are looking for some inspiration on Instagram to do some creative things. You can create a collection based on your project’s needs, on things you like and on things that you believe will be useful someday.

For example, let’s say that you are looking for some Instagram feed ideas that will make your profile look professional. Start by following accounts that you find interesting and that post a consistent theme of photos. Then you can easily bookmark the photos you like and create a collection out of them.

Note: These screenshots were captured in the Instagram app on iOS.

To bookmark the photos or videos you see on Instagram, you’ve got two options:

  • Tap the bookmark icon at the bottom of the photo or video that you want to save. It will be saved in a private section on your profile.
  • Tap the bookmark icon and hold it. In this way, you can save it to a collection you already created or create a new one.

Instagram is becoming more and more of a digital tool that every marketer wants to use, with the help of these recently implemented features.

From a social media perspective, bookmarking and archiving posts and Stories is a great way to engage with the community. From an advertising perspective, we have photo ads, video ads and the recently launched Stories ads that help advertisers get in front of their audience much faster than before.

So, there are tremendous opportunities to use Instagram as a marketing tool. For example, if you want to use Instagram Stories, here is a great guide that will help you post regularly every day for an entire week.

Instagram’s wonderful for research and with Saved photos and Collections, it’s simple to keep things organised by projects, locations, or whatever you want.

Like some other major social media platforms, Instagram enjoys setting trends by continuously providing new features to its users. In this way, Instagram gives its users an opportunity to get the most out of the platform through innovative new features.

One of the most useful features rolled out by Instagram recently is the addition of a little ribbon (flag) under each post. But what exactly does it do and why is it a great feature to use? Here we’ll go over the “little ribbon” feature that many Instagram users use every day. I’ll explain everything that you need to know about this feature.

The Instagram Bookmark Button

The ribbon under Instagram posts represents an option to save your favorite photos and create your own album in your profile.

You can use the little ribbon feature much the same way you use bookmarks in a browser. On Instagram, you can organize your saved photos into “collections” which are similar to playlists on Spotify.

If you’ve ever used Pinterest, then you’ll love this feature. Pinterest allows you to create your own collections of pins simply by saving them for later. This is the exact concept of the Instagram bookmark feature.

The way it works is pretty simple: when you see a post you like, simply tap on the bookmark button and you’ll add the photo to your favorites. You can do this as many times as you want and create a collection of your favorite photos.

Before this feature rolled out, users had to either screenshot the image or use a third-party app in order to save it. This button eliminates the need for that and provides a simple and convenient way of keeping all your favorite posts in one place within Instagram.

There is one thing that should be said. Before you go on a bookmarking spree, keep in mind that users will be notified every time you save their post. This means that it might not be a great idea to save a photo that your ex posted months ago. This would be the Instagram equivalent to liking a Facebook post a few months after someone posted it.

Whether this will change or not is unclear at the moment. Considering that there are people that may misuse this feature, the notifications are likely here to stay, so make sure to remember that.

Where Do The Saved Instagram Posts Go?

Once you’ve bookmarked your photo, you can find it on your profile. Look for the same ribbon-style button and you’ll enter all of your bookmarked posts.

When you enter the bookmarks album, you’ll see all the Instagram posts that you’ve saved. You can then revisit them as many times as you want. The only way one of your saved photos could disappear is if the user that posted the photo removes it.

The main reason why the Instagram ribbon icon bookmarking feature is an outstanding feature is that you get to save the best of the best photos from your Instagram feed. Most of us tend to double-tap on a bunch of photos, but we may not want to see all of them again. The bookmark feature lets you create a place for all the posts worth revisiting.

Another handy feature is being able to organize the posts you save. When you first go into the album, you’ll see all of the posts that you’ve saved. On the top right, you’ll see the ‘Collections’ tab, which lets you sort the posts based on any criteria. Like Spotify playlists, you can organize your Instagram Collections based on any criteria or theme that makes sense to you.

This way, you have even more control over your saved posts. You can create as many albums as you want and sort the posts you save into them. To create a new Instagram collection, simply tap the ‘+’ button in the upper right corner.

After you’ve done this, give the collection a name. You will then be asked to select the photos from your album and copy them into the collection. This doesn’t remove the photo from the ‘All’ tab, it just copies it into the collection.

Who Sees Your Bookmarked Posts?

If you want to keep the Instagram posts you save private, you’re in luck. Even though the bookmark album button is on your profile, it’s only visible to you, as are all the posts that you’ve saved. When someone else visits your profile, they won’t be able to see the bookmark icon like you do, so nobody else will have access to your saved photos.

This means that your posts are secured and kept away from prying eyes. As long as nobody has your Instagram login data, only you can see them.

How To Remove A Saved Post?

If you no longer want to have a post in a private album, there’s an easy way to remove it. First, go to your bookmarked Instagram photos. Then find the photo that you want to remove. Open it and then just tap on the bookmark icon until it’s transparent. This will remove the bookmark and it will no longer appear in your album or in a collection.

The Final Word

So now that you know what the little ribbon under Instagram posts represents, go ahead and create an album of your favorite photos. Make sure not to overdo it with one profile, though, and avoid spamming the user with a whole bunch of notifications.

Since it was released, this feature has been loved by many users. If you haven’t used it before, there’s a good chance that it will become a part of your daily Instagram routine. It’s a very helpful feature that allows you to remember all of your favorite moments from Instagram.

As we said before, Instagram surprises its users with new features pretty frequently. Some of the new features are minor, while some of them change the way we use Instagram. So keep enjoying this handy feature until we see the next thing that Instagram has in store for us.

If you are one who has a long list of following on Instagram, chances are that you often miss out on interesting pictures and exciting videos. And you can blame it squarely on the incoming deluge of Instagram posts.

How to bookmark posts on instagram

Though a majority of us wouldn’t admit, a straightaway solution was to quickly grab a screenshot of the post, for later references. Thankfully on December 2016, Instagram launched a feature which allowed users to directly save pictures and videos of their ‘Instagram followings’ through the Bookmarks feature.

But this feature had a slight drawback — all the pictures, regardless of the categories, got mixed up. So, you might end up with images of gourmet food and sea beaches, all rolled together under a single roof.

Thankfully, Instagram now lets you organize bookmarks into neat little bundles called Instagram Collections. Which means that the pictures of the mouth-watering burgers don’t necessarily have to rub shoulders with cool sea waves.

So, let’s have a quick look at how this cool Instagram trick for organizing pictures work.

1. Bookmark a Post

Bookmarking an Instagram post is simple. All you have to do is go to the favored post and click on the bookmark icon at the bottom.

How to bookmark posts on instagram

This will save your picture or the video to your Collection.

2. Create a Collection

Once done, head over to your profile, tap on the bookmark icon and choose Collection.

Tap on the Create Collection prompt and name it. Congratulations, you have created your first collection!

3. Choose From Collection

So, what’s stopping you now? Add the selected beautiful pictures to it and hit Save.

The cover picture of a Collection is often the first picture that you choose, but anyway you can always come back to edit it.

4. Save Directly to Collection

Apart from adding pictures and videos manually to Collections, you can also add them directly from the main page. All you have to do is tap on the bookmark icon and choose Save to Collection. Select the Collection and you are done.

To edit or delete one, tap on the three-dot menu of an open collection and choose Edit Collection.

Since Instagram has been pushing on the advertising front, you might often end up following quite a number of designers or brands, which results in lovely posts making their way to your Instagram feed.

And because millennials — which make up for a major chunk of Instagrammers — are often on the run and yet on a lookout for interesting things, the organize Instagram Bookmark feature is more than welcome. For it quickly lets you save and access old pictures and posts in a jiffy.

Organize It!

Instagram’s Collection feature can, in a way be compared to the Pinterest’s Save to Board feature, where you can save anything that catches your eye and have it to reference later. After all, you wouldn’t be wanting to scroll through your Insta feed while you shop for a look-alike product, right? So, start organizing, will ya?

Instagram has loads of features to personalize and enhance each user’s experience, such as the ability to save photos and videos you see on the app. But, in case you want to be a little discreet about your photo-saving adventures while scrolling through your feed, you may be curious if you can see who saves your Instagram photos and/or videos to their profile. If you’re trying to be low-key, here’s what you need to know.

All the way back in 2016, Instagram released the feature that allows users to save photos the see while scrolling about on the app. Before that sweet day, your options were limited to taking a screenshot (then of course your stuck cropping out the white spaces and evidence of the Instagram app around it), or as Mashable noted, downloading it from the Instagram website in your computer’s browser.

But, thankfully, you can simply save your Instagram photo to either your phone, or someone else’s to a private section of your Instagram profile, right from the app. The best part? If you’re saving an Instagram photo from another profile to a private tab on your profile, the person whose photo your saving won’t know that you’ve saved their photo. So yes, you’re in the clear.

In an Instagram blog published in December 2016, the company released information about its photo-saving feature. To save posts you’d like to see at another time, Instagram explained that “you’ll see a new bookmark icon underneath posts in your feed. Simply tap it to save a post to a new, private tab on your profile. There you can see all the posts you’ve saved — and they’re only visible to you.”

When can this feature be useful? As Instagram explained, “When you stumble upon a funny video you want to remember, a new outfit you like or even inspiration for an upcoming vacation, you can now keep track of favorite posts right from your profile.”

In Instagram’s help center, the company explains how the new photo-saving feature works. Once you tap the bookmark icon, you have officially saved the photo to a section of your profile that’s only visible to you. “When you save someone’s post, they’re not able to tell that you’ve saved it,” the post explains.

Beyond simply being able to save someone else’s post on Instagram, the app also allows users to break them into collections for optimal organization. To create a collection for the posts you save, according to Instagram, simply go to your profile and tap the three horizontal lines. Then tap the bookmark icon, then tap the + in the top right. From there, you can name your collection of saved posts. Once you’ve done that, just select the saved posts you’d like to add in each collection you’ve created.

So the next time someone posts a picture of their amazing meal at a new hip trendy place you realize you must try – save it for later, they won’t know you’re completely drooling over their post.

Instagram will make its bookmarking feature more useful, the company announced this morning, with the introduction of “collections.” The new feature will allow users to organize the posts they save into private groupings for easier access. The addition may further challenge Pinterest, which also favors image bookmarking and the ability to save items to particular boards.

When Instagram first introduced its bookmarking tool in December, it was capitalizing on an already common behavior across its app – people were often saving photos others had posted. Instagram users would regularly come across posts they want to look back on later – whether a funny video or a great quote, an outfit they like and want to shop, vacation inspiration, a product they want to try, and more.

With bookmarking, you can privately save these posts to your profile so you can quickly get back to them later, instead of downloading the photos to your phone’s Camera Roll where they can get lost.

Since Instagram introduced the bookmarking feature a few months ago, nearly half (46%) of users have saved at least one post, the company says.

With collections, the company now aims to make the feature more powerful.

How to bookmark posts on instagram

To use collections, you’ll tap and hold on the bookmark icon underneath any post to save it directly to a collection, Instagram explains. You can either create and name a new collection at this time or you can save the post to one you’ve already created.

If you’ve already been saving posts, you can now go back and create a collection with those saves. To do so, you’ll tap in the “plus” icon in the top right corner of the screen, name the new collection, and then select the saved posts you’d like to add – similar to organizing photos into an album on your phone.

Once your collections have been created, you can get to them at any time from your profile. And like saved posts, collections are private – only you can see them.

How to bookmark posts on instagram

The private nature of collections is the most significant difference between Instagram’s approach bookmarking compared with Pinterest. Your saves on Instagram are meant only for you, while Pinterest encourages its users to create and share images and their organized boards with others as a means of seeding its social network with more content.

That said, Instagram’s bookmarking feature still has a lot of overlap with Pinterest, as Instagram, too, is often a place people turn to for style tips, recipes, travel ideas, craft projects, inspirational quotes and other areas where Pinterest had made a name for itself.

The move comes shortly after another attack on Pinterest last week – but from Google, not Facebook. Google introduced its own fashion “style ideas” right in Image Search, along with an expanded selection of similar items when searching for apparel and accessories.

Instagram says collections are available on iOS and Android as part of the Instagram version 10.16 update in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Instagram is one of the most popular social networks. Besides being visually appealing and easy to access on the go, it’s also pretty simple to learn how to use Instagram.

The following tips can help you make the best out of your own Instagram experience so you can grow your followers and increase engagement.

Post Interesting, Colorful Photos and Videos

” data-caption=”” data-expand=”300″ data-tracking-container=”true” />

Instagram is all about providing value to your followers, especially if you want more engagement. In this case, your goal should be to post photos and videos that evoke some kind of emotion – happiness, humor, motivation, nostalgia, love, or anything else. High-quality photos with a lot of colors tend to get the most action on Instagram.

Don’t Overdo It With the Filter Effects

” data-caption=”” data-expand=”300″ data-tracking-container=”true” />

Instagram provides you with a bunch of filters you can apply to your photos to automatically enhance the look and style, but that trend seems to have already hit its peak. People want photos and videos that are colorful, but relatively natural-looking. Although filter effects may be tempting, try to limit your use of them to keep the color and contrast normal in most of your photos.

Feel Free to Use Hashtags, But Use Them Sparingly

How to bookmark posts on instagram

Using hashtags is a great way to increase you reach on Instagram, encourage more engagement and even attract new followers. Unfortunately, some people take it way too far. Their captions are often bloated with hashtags – many of which aren’t even relevant to the topic of their photo. If you do decide to use hashtags, make sure to keep it to a minimum, and only use keywords that are relevant.

Use the Explore Tab (Popular Page) to Find Great New Content

” data-caption=”” data-expand=”300″ data-tracking-container=”true” />

The Explore tab on Instagram is where some of the most popular photos and videos get featured. The photos that are shown here are tailored to you according to the photos and videos that have been liked or commented on by people you follow. You can find new users to follow or engage with by checking out this tab regularly by tapping the magnifying glass icon in the bottom menu.

Post Often to Keep Followers Interested

” data-caption=”” data-expand=”300″ data-tracking-container=”true” />

If you want to keep followers engaged, you need to post new content on a regular basis. That doesn’t mean you need to be posting 10 photos a day. In fact, posting once a day – or at least once every other day – should be frequent enough to keep your current followers interested. If you go long periods of time without posting, don’t be surprised if you lose a few followers.

Use Instagram Direct to Contact Specific Users

How to bookmark posts on instagram

Although it’s a good idea to post frequently to keep your followers engaged, sometimes it’s not always necessary to publicly post something to all your followers. Instead. you can target one or more specific users by privately direct messaging them a photo or video. Instagram Direct is a great way to connect with specific groups of users without needing to broadcast your content to everyone all at once.

Interact With Your Followers

” data-caption=”” data-expand=”300″ data-tracking-container=”true” />

Never ignore your most loyal followers who regularly like and comment on your photos! That’s a surefire way to eventually drive people away. Instead, you want to make your followers feel valued. Reply to their comments or even go check out their account and like a few of their photos. You can use a third-party tool like Iconosquare (formerly Statigram) if you want, to track comments and see which users are interacting with you the most.

Don’t Be Tempted to Purchase Followers

” data-caption=”” data-expand=”300″ data-tracking-container=”true” />

There’s a lot of hype around buying Instagram followers. And it’s true that you can get some big numbers for pretty cheap. The problem with buying them is that they’re often mostly fake and inactive. Your account may look a little strange to users who see that you have 15,000 followers, but almost no likes or comments on your photos and videos. Stick to real engagement. It’s not all about the numbers.

Experiment With Shoutouts

How to bookmark posts on instagram

Interacting with your current followers is always recommended, but the more people you reach out to, the better. Doing a shout out or s4s with another account in the same follower range is a very fast and effective way to reach more people. Two users basically agree to give the other a shoutout post on their own accounts. This is actually the main technique that many Instagram users have used to grow their accounts by the thousands.

Stay on Top of the Latest Instagram Trends

Hashtags and shoutouts are great, but even trends like these will eventually have an expiry date. If Instagram is a major social networking platform for you, it’s important to keep up with the latest trends to avoid getting left behind and putting yourself at risk of losing valuable followers. Check out these five big trends that are currently hot on Instagram.

Post Stories

Stories are less permanent, more “in the moment” pieces of content that you can post for your followers to see. They come in the form both photos and videos, which automatically disappear after 24 hours. They can be viewed at the top of the feed (in the form of circular bubbles). Stories simply offer a more casual way to connect, share and interact with your followers.
