Layla Llewellyn has fallen into Duke Matthias Herhardt’s trap as she took the bait in search of her glasses. The previous chapter acted as a premise for the upcoming events where Layla would find herself in the shambles of Matthias. Given the events that take place in the novel, this will be the start of the romance in Cry, Even Better If You Beg Chapter 22.
Layla became an orphan at a very young age, leading her to a life in an orphanage. However, that was short-lived as her uncle soon took her into adoption, providing her with a roof. Moreover, she also got to engage in the habit of drawing the little birds that would frequent his garden.
However, her life isn’t going to be so easy as the duke who lives nearby has gotten an eye on her as his prey. The young duke likes to hunt birds for pleasure and also likes to tease Layla. Thus, begins the tale of the hunt and hunted in the relatively modern world, with the female lead being the bird and the male lead the hunter.

Cry, Even Better If You Beg Chapter 22 will see how the plan by Matthia will come to be as he finds Layla next to him. Layla will have no idea that this had been a trap all along to get her to the Duke’s residence. However, given how Layla is, she would find the entire situation exciting.
Meanwhile, Claudine, despite being the future wife of the duke, doesn’t seem too important for the series or any character’s development. Perhaps it will be just to show that the duke is so head over heels for the female lead, that he would forgo his marriage. Or the series might play it safe and call that the arrangement was just a rumor and nothing concrete.
Whatever the case will turn out to be, for now, we will be encountering an escalating scene. To be precise, it will be Layla who will stumble upon something she didn’t know was waiting for. The series didn’t explain why the female lead had a need to get her old glasses with no emotional attachment and can’t get new ones, however.

The duke’s to-be wife was questioned by one of the guests about something trivial, only to get her attention. However, the man just wanted to bring up the fact that she will be getting married to Duke in the future.
The guest’s attention fell on the bird cage that was nearby, and was mystified by its out-of-place nature. The man was confused as to why Matthias would have a birdcage in his home. The Duke was known for hunting birds and taking pleasure in their suffering as they died from pain and succumbed to their death.
The to-be wife of the Duke was asked to give her opinion on what she thinks about the matter. She was just as surprised as everyone at first but later added that he should give a name to the bird. The Male lead, Matthias, refused to do so, as giving it a name was meaningless since it would die anyway.
