JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Walaupun memiliki konsep dan fungsi dasar serupa, yakni menahan laku kendaraan, rem mobil dan sistem pengereman bis memiliki kompleksitas berbeda. Tentunya, metode perawatan yang dilakukan keduanya pun tidak sama.
Berbeda dengan mobil pribadi yang umumnya pakai sistem pengereman mekanik (tromol), cakram, atau hidrolik, kendaraan niaga besar seperti bus menggunakan sistem compressed air brake (CAB) alias rem angin.
Sesuai namanya, rem CAB mengandalkan angin dan umumya digunakan pada kendaraan-kendaraan niaga seperti truk dan bus. Kekuatannya jauh lebih besar dibandingkan rem-rem biasa pada umumnya.
“Secara prinsip, sebetulnya perawatan rem bus dan rem mobil mirip-mirip, hanya saja rem bus memang jauh lebih kompleks,” kata Prasetyo Adhi Wibowo, Pemilik Bengkel Bus dan Truk ASNpro, kepada Kompas.com, Senin (8/5/2023).

Perbedaan pertama dijumpai pada sektor daya pengereman. Jika proses pengereman mobil mengandalkan minyak rem, bus mengandalkan udara sepenuhnya.
“Jadi untuk perawatan yang oaling utama adalah pemeriksaan di sektor penyuplai angin. Ini juga termasuk perawatan rutin, di mana bus harus dipastikan mampu menyuplai angin dari kompresor udara ke roda,” ucap dia.
Adhi menjelaskan, komponen yang paling harus diperhatikan adalah kompresor angin. Perawatan rutin dilakukan untuk memastikan selalu berfungsi secara independen dalam menyuplai angin.
“Selain kompresor, komponen lain yang jadi perhatian yaitu regulator angin, relay valve, dan thersmostat. Kurang lebih inilah komponen-komponen inti yang harus sangat diperhatikan,” ucap dia.
