All Hail the New VTuber of Netflix: N-ko!

By William Rodriguez

While Steam’s Golden Week Sale is a fitting time for Lord Gaben to pick the wallets of JRPG and visual novel lovers, what better way to promote Netflix’s upcoming 40 new anime series this year than with a virtual moe sheep-girl? You heard correctly; VTuber fever has now reached the headquarters of mega-corporation Netflix as they too jump on the bandwagon of virtual waifus with their new anime ambassador, N-ko Mei Kurono.

N-ko had her debut earlier this week, on April 27. Voiced by a bilingual Netflix employee, N-ko’s mission as Netflix’s Anime Club Manager is to provide news and insight on the anime shows and movies in Netflix’s massive catalog. According to her introduction video, she plans to do cover songs, game commentaries, and even collabs with other VTubers in the near future.

Here are some details that N-ko has shared about herself so far:

  • was born in California, US.
  • loves singing, dancing, and massages
  • dislikes writing Japanese kanji and anything that contains elements of horror

Starting this Friday, the Netflix Anime YouTube channel will hold the weekly N-ko Show that features mini-discussions such as:

Weekly Favorites – anime recommendations for binge-watching

  • The Promised Neverland
  •  Re: Zero − Starting Life in Another World
  • Attack on Titan
  • Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
  • Devilman Crybaby

N-ko English – learn a popular anime phrase in Japanese and English

This weeks phrase:

“You’ve crossed a line you shouldn’t have crossed.”

“てめぇは、踏み込んじゃならねぇ領域に踏み込んだ。”

N-ko’s Q & A – fans get to know more about N-ko

In this week’s inaugural episode, N-ko revealed the following additional characteristics about herself during the Q & A:

  • Devilman Crybaby is her favorite anime
  • her favorite animal is the cheetah (even though she’s a sheep)
  • has an allergy to yams
  • prefers aquariums over zoos
  • wants to visit Europe someday
