Yellowstone Season 5’s Best Story Is Angela Blue Thunder & Beth Teaming Up

By Robert King

In Yellowstone season 5, Q’orianka Kilcher’s return as Angela Blue Thunder can finally deliver Angela and Beth Dutton’s (Kelly Reilly) teased alliance. The air of finality surrounding Yellowstone season 5 is only thickened by Angela’s return. As both the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and the Broken Rock Indian Reservation are threatened by the billionaire-backed land-grabbing of Market Equities, it only makes sense for Beth and Angela team up for one big, final fight in the fifth season.

This team-up was first teased in Yellowstone season 3, episode 7 “The Beating,” in which John Dutton and Thomas Rainwater arranged a meeting between Beth and Angela. When they met, Beth and Angela made plans for aligning their strategies against Market Equities. Disappointingly, nothing ever came of this interaction – a wasted opportunity, especially considering how Beth Dutton and Angela Blue Thunder are both fan favorites.

Yellowstone season 5 needs to fix this by finally showing what kind of chaos that Beth and Angela can stir up if they ever worked together. Angela’s return could also explain what happened to her after season 3 – one of Yellowstone season 4’s biggest unanswered questions. Most importantly, an Angela and Beth team-up would suggest that there’s still a chance for the Confederated Tribes of Broken Rock and the Dutton family to settle their differences.

What Will Angela Blue Thunder’s Role Be In Yellowstone Season 5?

Like Beth, Angela is the definition of a wild card – while it’s clear that her allegiance is to her people, it’s difficult to predict her next moves. Angela’s general demeanor – combined with how Mo called Angela evil to dissuade Thomas from working with her – even lead viewers to speculate that it was Angela who orchestrated the violent attack on the Duttons in the Yellowstone season 3 finale. While Yellowstone season 4 made it clear that Market Equities was behind the attack, viewers were justified in thinking that Angela was responsible. As Angela told Thomas Rainwater in the finale, their tribe’s indigenous laws about protecting the land are much older than the laws of white governments – including those that determine the Dutton family’s century-old claim to the land. Calling Thomas a slave to the white man, Angela reminded Thomas that it is his duty to uphold these laws at any cost.

Yellowstone’s decision to bring back Angela Blue Thunder couldn’t have come at a better time in the show, especially if it leads to her finally wreaking havoc alongside Beth Dutton. Apart from satisfying viewers who’ve been waiting for this teased team-up sinceseason 3, this could also lead to a great Yellowstone season 5 twist hinged on one betraying the other. Whether as allies or mortal enemies, Angela and Beth would make a great team.
