Who is Adriel? Warrior Nun reveal and backstory explained
Warrior Nun has captivated audiences but who is Adriel? We’re here to explain the character’s true nature, addressing the series’ stunning reveal.
Reflecting on the world today, it’s not exactly difficult to comprehend why so many viewers are retreating into fantasy.
Netflix is here to help with some quality escapism in the form of Warrior Nun.
Based on the comic book character Warrior Nun Areala created by Ben Dunn, the series centres on a young woman who awakes in a morgue to realise that she’s now part of an ancient order tasked with saving Earth from evil demons.
It was created by Simon Barry, who will be no stranger to fans of Continuum.
High expectations have certainly been met, but let’s take a moment to talk about Adriel…
Who is Adriel? Warrior Nun reveal explained
Throughout the series, characters reinforce the story of Areala, a warrior who died in battle. It’s said that an angel called Adriel brought Areala back from the grave after giving her his halo.
There’s the sense that the protagonists are being deceived and all is revealed during a flashback towards the end of the series.
Ava learns that Adriel isn’t an angel, but instead a demon who stole the halo; he was on the run from the Terasks as they attempted to retrieve it. Essentially, he arrived at the scene of Areala’s demise coincidentally and seized the opportunity to save her so that the Knights Templar would trust him wholeheartedly. He fought one of the Terasks and made armour, sword and shield from its skeleton.
Subsequently, the Church concealed him inside a tomb instead of enlightening the world to his true nature.
However, he was able to manipulate Michael into sculpting the quantum portal so he can return home, having him believe it was to help save the world.
Season 2 is all set up
Of course, we’re all set to chronicle Adriel’s quest for destruction in the second season. With such a bold and daring cliffhanger, it’s hard to predict how things will turn out for our heroes.
We’re excited to see what Adriel has up his sleeve, but as of yet, a second season hasn’t been confirmed by Netflix.
Nevertheless, the show’s popularity will surely be impossible for them to ignore. It looks like they have quite the hit on their hands.
