What Was The Reason Behind The Babylon Bee’s Twitter Ban?

Seth Dillon, CEO of conservative Christian parody news site The Babylon Bee, chastised Twitter for deleting his account. The news platform’s Twitter account was frozen for a message in which the US Assistant Secretary of Health, Dr Rachel Levine, who has been identified as a woman, was named “Man of the Year”. “. ” for the year 2022.

Dillon posted the suspension notice from Twitter via the conservative portal’s alleged provocative announcement on Monday, March 22. In the tweet, Dillon attached a warning image and stated that Twitter will not reinstate accounts unless the content is deleted. In a second tweet, the CEO stated that the company will not censor its message by deleting it. he wrote,

“We will not delete anything. The truth is not some kind of hate speech. If telling the truth leads to the penalty of losing our Twitter account, so be it.”

What is the reason behind The Babylon Bee’s Twitter ban?

According to a copy of the account suspension letter provided by Seth Dillon, Twitter banned the news site’s account due to “hateful behaviour”. “Hateful behavior,” according to Twitter’s support website, refers to tweets or materials uploaded to the network that encourage violence or incite attacks or direct threats against people.

Any act of assault or violence against anyone “because of race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religion, age, disability, illness or serious illness” are considered “hateful behavior” by the platform.

While The Babylon Bee’s post and its consequences are disputed, Twitter has yet to identify which part of the “hateful behavior policy” the tweet violated. Since then, many of Seth Dillon’s platform followers have responded in favor of his tweets.

Part of the misunderstanding stems from the fact that the first tweet called Dr. Rachel Levine a guy. Because the phrase in question isn’t really an obscene word,’ it’s unclear how the social media giant documented the rule violations.

Babylon Bee’s reaction to the uproar

Controversy erupted when the portal posted a story about Dr. Rachel Levine, who transformed from a “biological guy” into a woman in 2011. The site posted a story with a headline. “Babylon’s Man of the Year is Rachel Levine” on March 15.

They referred to Levine as male in the article and used the pronoun ‘He/He’ for her, arguing that her self-identification as a woman “has nothing to do with reality.” Furthermore, Seth Dillon argued in his tweet,

“They won’t let you come to the conclusion that a person’s meanness qualifies him as a guy. You must verify that Rachel identifies herself as a woman.

Dillon has stated that many Twitter users reported a series of his personal accounts after the issue became public. However, Twitter has insisted that the reported posts do not violate its regulations and, therefore, will not be removed.
