The Jester is a must-see 2023 movie
Writer-director Colin Krawchuk brings us The Jester, a horror movie that plucks the titular antagonist from some much-loved horror shorts that began to build up a following on YouTube.
Two estranged sisters are brought back to one another on Halloween night after their father’s passing, but rather than the family reunion anybody would hope for the pair is tasked with taking on the Jester, a malevolent and deeply disturbing being who has made it his mission to plague a small town.
Determined to banish him and the evil at his command, the brave sisters get to work and are forced to confront and understand their shared past.
Blending grisly kills with a clown-esque foe to face off against, fans have drawn parallels with Terrifier, which recently gifted viewers a new Art the Clown poster and teaser. “I just watched the new horror movie The Jester,” one fan began on X, and “It heavily reminds me of Terrifier, since the main villain, and the story, line up almost perfectly.” However, the movie’s director has explained what singles his creation out of the slasher icon crowd.
“The Jester kind of separates himself from other horror antagonists because he loves what he does,” Colin explained to Dread Central.
“He loves to have an audience, and he loves to kind of stand out from everybody else. He’s kind of different from other horror antagonists. They hide in the shadows, they creep in the closet, and stuff like that. The Jester loves to have an audience and kind of dance down the street… You can see him coming.”
