Longtime County Commissioner of Union County, Stony D. Rushing died at the age of 51 on Tuesday evening, August 8. Rushing passed away after a courageous battle with health issues over the past year.
He leaves behind his wife Anne-Marie and their two children.
The Union County Government announced Rushing’s death via a statement shared on social media;
“On behalf of the Union County Board of Commissioners and Chairman Stony D. Rushing’s family, we regretfully share that Chairman Rushing passed away this evening after a courageous battle with health issues over the past year. We were hopeful he would make a full recovery, so this certainly is a difficult time,” the statement read.
Chairman Rushing was a dedicated public servant and long-serving member of the Union County Board of Commissioners. He loved Union County and was passionate about serving this community. His contributions to Union County have been immeasurable and will leave a lasting impact.

A sharp mind that could find details that others had missed and a sense of humor that would crack like a whip when he got into a confrontation. We’ll all remember the photos he would share of himself kissing a donkey whenever he got into an argument with Democrats. He was also a man of great emotions,” a tribute post shared on Facebook read.
