Sister Wives season 18’s premiere was a dramatic look at where the Brown family stands after Christine Brown left Kody Brown’s plural marriage, leaving many wondering if Kody can forgive his ex-wife. Christine, the third wife to enter into plural marriage with Kody behind Meri Brown and Janelle Brown, had been feeling stuck in her relationship with Kody for years before deciding to make a change. In 2021, Christine made the difficult decision to let Kody know that she wanted to get a divorce. Though the two were not legally married, they share children after spending nearly 30 years together, so the shift was jarring.
Kody didn’t take well to Christine’s announcement of separation. He did his best to keep her in their hometown of Flagstaff, Arizona, and ensure he could continue having regular contact with their youngest daughter, Truely. Unfortunately, Kody wasn’t able to keep Christine tied down. She moved herself and Truely to Salt Lake City, Utah, where most of her family and several of her children also live. Christine’s move was documented throughout Sister Wives season 17, and has led Kody down an angry path that he doesn’t seem like he’ll be able to shake off.

As Sister Wives season 18 got off to a rocky start with Kody and Christine meeting up for the first time after her move, viewers could feel the palpable tension between the exes. While Christine felt more tied down by her relationship than in the past, Kody was clearly feeling anger he didn’t know how to let go of. The pair met at a restaurant, and while Kody had already explained that he wasn’t interested in hearing Christine out, it became even more clear that he was hurt by his ex-wife seeing them chatting together. Kody shared that he felt betrayed by Christine leaving, something he hasn’t overcome.
While Christine has been able to make light of some of the more difficult times in her marriage with Kody, the patriarch of the Brown family has had a more challenging time letting go. Kody felt blindsided by Christine leaving, even with all the signs she was going to do so. While Kody was hoping he’d be able to reconcile the relationship and make things work moving forward, Christine had her mind made up. Christine’s stoicism about her firm decision to leave Kody left him feeling helpless in a situation he wanted to fix. Between the blindside and the nature of their relationship, Kody’s feelings seem extreme but make sense.
Christine Wants A Friendship With Kody
After nearly 30 years of marriage, Christine made the tough decision to leave a relationship she was no longer happy with. With Sister Wives watching Christine’s every move, she knew her choice to leave would be big, something she couldn’t do privately. Christine had her gripes with Kody, but the end of their marriage came down to the fact that Christine felt she would be happier outside of it. She didn’t feel like Kody prioritized her as a wife, and with a litany of little slights collecting into some larger resentment, Christine’s happiness became the most important thing to her.

After being with Kody for such a large portion of her life, Christine is hopeful that she can make amends with the father of her children and that they can reach a place where they can joke around with each other comfortably. Christine hopes to be friends with Kody, which she made clear in the way she communicated with him on the Sister Wives season 18 premiere.
Will Kody & Christine Be On Good Terms One Day?
Although the former couple seemed to make the most of their first meeting post-divorce on Sister Wives season 18’s premiere, it’s clear that Kody and Christine have a long way to go before they’re truly friends. Kody’s anger towards Christine is still palpable, making it unlikely that they could be friends with his emotions where they currently sit. Kody’s struggling with his feelings about the demise of his marriage to Christine, but things will get more difficult for the patriarch as his marriages to Janelle and Meri come crashing down. Though Kody has support from his remaining wife, Robyn Brown, Kody may be looking for a friend.
Christine knows Kody well. After being married to him for nearly 30 years, she may not be the friend he’s hoping for, but she could be a beneficial person in his life as he sorts through the issues he’s been facing in his other relationships. Considering Christine hopes to make amends with Kody and become friends for their children’s sake, friendship could be a tremendous asset to both. While it wasn’t the future the Sister Wives couple originally dreamed of, Kody and Christine could be on good terms one day in the future.
