Prof. Petru Munteanu Obituary; Violinist And Pedagogue Petru Munteanu Has Passed Away.
Prof. Petru Munteanu trained professionally under Prof. G. Manoliu, who was Enescu’s student in Bucharest. He also attended master courses with J. Jankelevitsch in Moscow and M. Weimann in St. Petersburg.
In 1970, he started teaching at the conservatoires in Lübeck and Hamburg, following a tenure as a professor at the Bucharest Conservatoire and the director of the Special School of Music in Bucharest. started in 1994 at the recently established University of Music and Drama Rostock.
At addition to serving as the artistic director of the international competition and the masterclasses for strings at Kloster Schöntal, Munteanu was also the artistic director of the international Leopold Mozart Competition.
His pupils have gone on to join prominent German orchestras, including the Wiener Philharmoniker, Hamburg Philharmonic, Bayerische Staatsoper, and Berlin Philharmonic, to name a few.
He has been on the juries of several prestigious contests, including Königin Elisabeth, Premio Paganini, Premio Paganini, Wieniawski, Enescu, and Tchaikowsky.
He served as president of the European String Teachers Association’s German division from 2000 to 2004. He received the highest medal of the Republic of Lithuania in recognition of his accomplishments and was made a “honorary professor” at the University of Brasov.
