New World Players Are Banning Each Other To Win Events

By Ava Barnes

New World players are admittedly abusing the game’s reporting system, by getting others banned just before war events. In the world of online gaming, reporting other players just out of sheer frustration isn’t uncommon behavior. This holds especially true in competitive spaces such as League of Legends or Call of Duty – games that pit players against each other. Misusing the reporting feature isn’t something that’s usually attached to MMORPGs however, since these kinds of games place greater focus on their communities.

Amazon’s New World is one of the exceptions to the rule, however. The game’s most appreciated feature is its company versus company wars, as most would agree that PvP is the game’s biggest strength. It’s a little bit of a shame to find out that such a prominent aspect of the game can be trivialized by exploiting the player reporting system. Time-limited PvP war events are fairly important in New World, and players have been managing to get others banned by mass reporting. The MMORPG’s flagging system then bans those targeted players for 24 hours.

Players have started complaining on Reddit, with some of the posts gaining thousands of upvotes. It isn’t surprising to read about their frustrations, however, as New World‘s rocky launch had already managed to anger many players. If hellish queues times for login weren’t enough, an abusable reporting system feels unfair. One popular Reddit post gained over 24000 upvotes and made the issue extremely clear:

This is absolutely ridiculous, what now? We have to give up our hard fought territory because everyone can press report a couple times? This is crazy we need a fix ASAP.”

New World Player Bans: Streamers Affected Too

Gaming website Fextralife’s streamer ‘Cas’ has spoken about having been banned for the same reasons. He admittedly got banned right after one of his streaming sessions ended. However, after reaching out to Amazon, the developers have been quick to fix the issue and got his account unbanned almost immediately. Many have deemed this to be unfair, and that streamers tend to receive preferential treatment when it comes to these kinds of situations.New World players ban

It isn’t surprising, however, that even big streamers are being affected. If anything, personalities being targeted only sheds more light upon these obnoxious design flaws, and players can only hope that Amazon quickly addresses this. Breaking a PvP-centric’s competitive nature isn’t healthy at all for the game’s long-term welfare.
