Mesin diesel turbo terbaru berkode GD akan menggantikan KD untuk Innova, Fortuner, dan Hilux terbaru.(Toyota)
Vienna, KompasOtomotif — Toyota mulai menunjukkan mesin diesel baru yang diklaim jauh lebih efisien dan bertenaga. Jantung pacu yang diberi nama GD Series itu muncul dalam Vienna Motor Symposium, Vienna, Austria, 7-8 Mei 2015, dan akan digunakan pada generasi baru IMV Toyota, seperti Hilux, Fortuner, dan Innova.
Mesin diesel berkode GD itu akan menggantikan mesin lama berkode KD. Embel-embel barunya adalah "Economy with Superior Thermal Efficient Combustion (ESTEC)", terdiri dari tipe 2.8L 1GD-FTV dan 2.4L 2GD-FTV. Artinya, tak lama lagi mesin lama 3.0L 1KD-FTV dan 2.5L 2KD-FTV otomatis tergusur.
Tenaga maksimal mesin tipe 2.8L mencapai 177 tk @3.400 rpm, dan torsi puncaknya mencapai 450 Nm @1.600-2.400 rpm. Sementara itu, tipe 2.4L mampu menyemburkan tenaga 160 tk dan torsi 400 Nm. Hasil dan setelan kemungkinan berbeda tergantung negara atau model tertentu.
Mesin diesel GD ini tetap mengadopsi teknologi commonrail direct injection dengan tekanan 1.350 bar, ditambah dengan variable geometry turbocharger. Transmisi otomatik 6-percepatan dan manual 5-percepatan akan menjadi pasangannya.
Selain bakal digunakan pada generasi baru Hilux, Fortuner, dan Innova, mesin turbo ini juga kemungkinan bakal "digendong" oleh Land Cruiser Prado.
