LeClaire driver accused in fatal crash had high blood-alcohol level, police say

By Matthew Martinez

Police say a woman accused of killing another woman with her car in LeClaire had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit.

Molly Vance, 36, appeared with her attorney Tuesday in Scott County Court for her preliminary hearing. She’s charged with vehicular homicide and OWI.

On Saturday after the crash, Vance had a .182 blood-alcohol level LeClaire Police Investigator Corey Hasley testified.  Police allege she hit Leslie Preisser, 44, of Bettendorf, with an SUV at Riverview Roadhouse in LeClaire.

Under Iowa law, according to the Iowa DOT, it is unlawful to drive with an alcohol concentration of .08 or more.

Hasley testified that officers at the scene said Vance was unable to maintain her balance that night after Preisser was found dead – pinned between the railing and the bar. Security video shows a Cadillac Escalade strike a woman victim, he said.

Hasley said autopsy results are not available yet.

A judge found probable cause for the case to continue March 21 in Scott County Court.

Both families waited, along with other families and those appearing in court, in the hallway, where – after voices were raised – a deputy separated the two families.

Vance was released earlier on bond.
