LaHood: Border security must come before larger immigration reform
Congress passed another temporary spending deal that keeps the government running.
This latest example of budget procrastination now pushes the deadlines to March.
Democrats and Republicans have a basic framework for a long-term budget but couldn’t get to the details in time.
The biggest clash on Capitol Hill involves President Biden’s push for a national security bill to support Ukraine, Israel, and bolster security at the southern border with Mexico.
Republicans in the House want more concessions on the border before agreeing to it.
They won’t go along with a full-scale immigration reform package despite Senate Republicans being on board and saying it’s time to do it.
Those partisan heels continue to be dug into the ground when it comes to immigration, Israel and Ukraine getting in the way of a deal on spending.
One man in the middle of that debate is Illinois Congressman Darin LaHood, who talks with host Jim Niedelman about a variety of issues, including border security and support for Ukraine and Israel in their wars.
