She Prosecuted child sexual assault cases including general misdemeanors as well as felonies she impressively maintained a 100% conviction rate. During 2004 Karen joined Oakland County-based firm where she was specialized in family law and civil law she was named shareholder and partner in 2010. During the course of her career, she engraved out noteworthy legal expertise matters related to children she has also been a member of the Foster care review board Advisory Committee, Department of Health & Human Services Trafficking Protocol,  She was also a part of the Revision Committee Child Death Review Committee, Oakland County and Youth Suicide Prevention Task Force. She is also a member of the National Council of Juvenile And Family Court Judges, The  Michigan Judges Association, and the Women’s Lawyer Association of Michigan also the Oakland County Bar Association She is also the recipient of the Oakland County domestic violence prevention award also the Joan E. In 2012, McDonald decided to run for the open seat on Oakland County Circuit Court, she won the non-partisan judicial election with almost 60% of the vote. Accepting office in January 2013, McDonald was captained for around six years as a family court judge, taking focus on divorce and custody, child abuse and neglect, also juvenile delinquency cases. In 2015, McDonald headed over the foremost same-sex adoption in the history of the State of Michigan, proclaiming that the case was a great honor. McDonald unopposed her 2018 re-election and during November 6, 2018, she was also elected for a second six-year term on the 6th Circuit Court, Karen Mcdonald ranked as the top vote-earner of the circuit court judges.
