Joel S. Marcus J.D. CPA., serves as Executive Chairman of the Board of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. Prior to April 2018, Mr. Marcus served as the Company’s Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and President. Mr. Marcus co-founded the Company in 1994 as a garage startup with $19 million in Series A capital and led its growth into an S&P 500® company with a total market capitalization of approximately $26.3 billion as of December 31, 2019, and significant market presence in key locations, including Greater Boston, San Francisco, New York City, San Diego, Seattle, Maryland, and Research Triangle.
