Incontinence - pads vs pull ups
By William Rodriguez
First time user of forum so excuse any irregularities!
Does anyone have any preferences with pull-up disposable pants. I have been using these for my wife (bladder incontinence night only) over the last 6 months and notice she has some extreme redness between her legs and came to the conclusion that it may have been caused by chafing. I apply a layer of double base cream to the affected area before fitting the pants and another layer after removal.
I would appreciate any advice or comments.
Some suggestions -- firstly, are you sure the pants are not too small?
And are they excessively wet in the morning? If so, it could be a higher absorbency is needed.
I would suggest using a barrier cream instead of doublebase, to help protect your wife's skin from the urine.Sorbaderm and Proshield are good ones, and should be available on prescription.
Have you had an assessment from the Continence Service? They can advise and arrange supplies of continence products free via the NHS (though in some areas they won't supply pants, only pads.)
If the redness persists, do not hesitate to contact GP or district nurse, as if sores develop they can be very serious.
