How to switch a minecraft world from survival to creative to hardcore

I’ve kind of forgoten but its something like this
make a new world in survival mode using the same seed as your hardcore world’s
then copy the region and data folders from your hardcore world and paste them into your survival world

Ps if you dont know how to get the folders then read on
(this is for windows)
Press the start button in the bottom left corner and click run
then search %appdata%
after click the .minecraft folder and go to saves
there should be a folder with the original name of your hardcore world open it and you’ll find the folders
copy them into the survival world folder

The hardcore mode death screen, where it says ‘Game Over’ instead of ‘You Died’

Hardcore is a Java Edition exclusive variant of Survival and one of the main game modes in Minecraft. In this mode, the world is locked to Hard difficulty and the player cannot respawn after dying.

The key feature of Hardcore mode is that the player is not given the option to respawn upon death as they would in other game modes. Instead, there are two buttons on the death screen: “Spectate world” and “Title screen”. “Spectate world” sets the player to Spectator mode and respawns the player at the world’s spawn point, making them able to view and explore the world only in that mode. The “Title screen” button simply leads the player to the main menu screen; re-opening the world simply returns the player back to the same death screen as before. Respawn anchors do not resurrect players in Hardcore mode.

In addition, Hardcore mode worlds are restricted to Hard difficulty.

When creating a Hardcore mode world, the Enable Cheats and Bonus Chest world options are locked to OFF. On the world selection menu, Hardcore mode worlds display dark red text reading “Hardcore Mode!”

Hardcore mode is specific to worlds, not players; the variable determining whether the world is in Hardcore mode is saved in level.dat . Thus, the player can use /gamemode creative (if cheats are enabled) to set themselves to Creative mode. Players in Creative mode while on a Hardcore mode world still see Hardcore mode’s death screen upon death.

It is normally impossible to toggle Hardcore mode once the world has been created, though it is possible to use external programs such as NBTExplorer to change it by setting the hardcore tag to either 1 (hardcore) or 0 (normal).

However, it is possible to enable cheats through the Open to LAN feature in the pause menu. From here, the player can, while spectating the world after death, type /gamemode survival to bring themselves back to Survival mode, being able to play again by cheating death.

Multiplayer [ ]

Hardcore mode is an option for multiplayer, and its functions are similar to those in singleplayer. All players have Hardcore mode enabled — it is impossible to have some players in Hardcore and some not.

Server operators can use the /gamemode command to change the game mode of themselves or another player.

  Rather late, but here’s what you should do.

  Don’t start making the world in anything other than hardcore. From there, go “open to LAN” (you don’t need to have others join), but turn on cheats. While this will change your mode to survival, this is only while you’re playing that session. If you exit the world and log back in, you should be in hardcore mode again.

  Therefore, you will be able to duplicate the world as much as you want, and edit it in any gamemode (eg, creative or adventure) while still being able to play it in hardcore. This is also how you can survive past dying in hardcore : open to lan, cheats, gamemode survival, relog. It should work.

  Minecraft has come a long way since its launch back in 2011. It now spans multiple game modes, each with a different end goal and with varying levels of difficulty. Switching between these game modes is simple, and can greatly change your experience with the game.

  The key is knowing the differences between each game mode and what it means for you. This guide will explain not only what the modes are, but how to switch between game modes in Minecraft with ease.

  What Are Game Modes in Minecraft?

  Minecraft is made up of four different game modes: Creative, Survival, Hardcore, and Adventure.

  Creative Mode is the most free-form of all the Minecraft game modes. In Creative Mode, the player cannot die and has access to every single in-game item through an expanded inventory. It allows players to build massive structures with abandon and explore the world around them.

  Creative Mode is the go-to choice when you want to build up a starting area for your server before switching to a different game type. It’s also the best mode when you want to play a casual, low-risk game that allows you to flex your imagination and build anything you can think of.

  Survival Mode is the most basic Minecraft game mode. You start with no resources (or very few resources) and must fight your way through a world filled with enemies that wish nothing more than to see you fail. Survival Mode forces you to keep both your health and hunger levels up, set spawn points, and more.

  There are real risks to dying in Survival Mode, including losing all of your items. There are also four separate difficulty levels to choose from: Peaceful, Easy, Normal, and Hard. In Peaceful, no monsters spawn and your hunger will not drop. In addition, you regenerate health over time.

  On Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulties, hostile enemies will spawn and your health will not regenerate unless your hunger levels are full. The damage inflicted by both environmental hazards and enemies increases with each difficulty level.

  Hardcore Mode is similar to Survival, but with two major exceptions. The first is that the game’s difficulty is locked to Hard mode, and the second is that there is no respawn. If you are killed in Hardcore Mode, you cannot come back. The game is over for you and you must start in a brand-new world.

  Hardcore Mode is the most difficult of all Minecraft game modes, but also one of the most fun for those looking for a challenge. The higher stakes make the game much more enjoyable, both to play and to watch.

  Adventure Mode is a game mode specifically set aside for custom-created maps. While it shares some similarities with Survival in that players have to fight mobs and keep their hunger up, they can’t destroy blocks with their fists. Instead, specific tools must be used.

  Adventure Mode often contains storylines or specific goals based on the map. It’s a different way of playing Minecraft that allows people to dive deeper into the Minecraft world and create their own lore and stories.

  How To Switch Between Game Modes In Minecraft

  You can start a game in any mode, but if you decide to switch between game modes in Minecraft mid-way through your gameplay, there is a specific command you need to type. You also need to have cheats enabled within your game, which means you cannot finish achievements with this method active.

  First, hit the slash or question mark key on your keyboard. This opens the chat menu within Minecraft. Next, type /gamemode. Minecraft will try to autocomplete the phrase. You can then type any of the following:

  • adventure
  • creative
  • spectator
  • survival

  Notice “Spectator” mode? That’s a specific game type that allows you to take on a disembodied form and fly around a game world, watching other players without interfering in what they’re doing. It’s also the mode you swap to if you are killed on a Hardcore server.

  You might also note that Hardcore isn’t an option. You have to start a game in Hardcore mode–you can’t choose it later. If you start in Hardcore and move to a different game type, you can’t return to Hardcore.

  CHANGING YOUR WORLD TO HARDCORE

  If your world has been already generated, you will need to edit a few extra settings to activate hardcore mode. You can do this by using NBTExplorer.

  1. Follow steps 1 to 5 of our guide on How to use NBTExplorer to edit Minecraft World Data.
  2. Start NBTExplorer and open the level.dat downloaded from your server.
     
  3. Once loaded, double click on hardcore and set the value to 1 then press OK.
     
  4. Once modified, click Save All Modified Tags in the top-left corner.
     
  5. Upload and overwrite the modified level.dat file back to the server.
     
  6. Restart your server.

  HOW TO SWITCH FROM SURVIVAL TO CREATIVE MODE IN MINECRAFT

  To date, Minecraft remains one of the most successful video games of all time. The manner in which its building mechanics grant creative freedom to players, in combination with its emphasis on survival mechanics has been a winning formula. Sometimes, though, you just want to build in peace without lurking danger around every corner. Luckily, there’s a special Creative Mode for just that very purpose.

  Accessing the mode differs depending on which platform you’re playing on.

  Console / Pocket Edition

  After booting up Minecraft, you are quickly brought to a menu where you can either make or select a world to play in. Scroll up from Load to the top of the options where you will see a tab called Game Mode, followed by whatever mode you were playing on. Select it and adjust until it reads as Creative, then load your game. You’re now playing on Creative. Be warned though, doing this will nullify any possible achievements you can get in that particular world seed.

  First, load up the world you have that is already in Survival Mode. Once it’s loaded hit ESC on your keyboard and you’ll be brought to your Minecraft menu. From there, select Open to LAN and change the Allow Cheats option to “On”. Then hit Start LAN World and you’ll be brought back to your game. Now type /gamemode 1 and hit your enter key to officially switch it over to Creative Mode. If you ever want to go back to Survival, type in /gamemode 0.

  My girlfriend accidentally enabled hardcore mode in Minecraft, dooming herself to experience the ultimate frustration sooner or later on her first playthrough. Is there any (presumably non-legitimate) way to disable it?

  Here’s a quick how-to:

  (if unsure, get the ZIP file).
• Unzip/install, and then run (make sure Minecraft is closed).
• Click Open NBT Data Source and select %APPDATA%\.minecraft\saves\%WORLDNAME%\level.dat (you can copy-paste the %APPDATA%\.minecraft\saves part into the address bar).
• Expand Data, double-click hardcore, enter 0 , click OK.
• Click Save All Modified Tags.
• Voila!

This also works for Macs now.

If you want a simpler way or are on a Mac, use these steps.

• First open the world and type /seed into the chat.
• Write down the number for future use.
• Place all of your inventory items in chests. If you don’t, you won’t get them back.
• Make sure to exit the world before the next steps!
• Open your Minecraft folder and browse to your saves folder.
• Take out the world you want to change and store it somewhere (eg. desktop.)
• Open it up and find the files called level.dat and level.dat_mcr.
• Drag those files to the trash.
• Now open up Minecraft and create a new world.
• Name it what your old world was named, unless you want to change the name.
• Change the game type to whatever you want the new game type to be.
• Click more options and type in the seed you wrote down earlier in the seed section.
• In more options you can also turn cheats on or off.

Once you have finished customizing, click done. When the world generates, quit to the title screen and do the following;

• Find the world you just created and copy the level.dat and level.dat_mcr to the world file you stored earlier.
• Once that is done, delete the world you just created and drag the world from wherever you stored it (possibly desktop) and put it in saves.

You will spawn at the spawn point, but never fear, simply walk to your house and retrieve your stuff from the chest. You will now have all the options you set on the world you created earlier on the new world.

An intense, unforgiving gamemode, vanilla Minecraft’s hardcore mode locks your server’s world into hard difficulty. When a player on a hardcore world dies, they are locked into spectator mode with no chance to respawn.

There are some plugins and mods out there that redefine hardcore or interfere with vanilla’s hardcore mode. You’ll need to check plugin/mod documentation to best keep updated on what may affect your server.

How do I enable hardcore mode?

We recommend stopping your server before you toggle any settings. Due to the way hardcore mode ties to your server’s world, you might also take the time to create a new world now. If you’re ready to proceed, access the Settings page in your Prisma control panel (under the “Customize” menu), toggle the setting for Hardcore, save your changes, then start your server.

How do I disable hardcore mode?

As hardcore mode is tied to your server’s world, disabling it is not as easy as toggling a setting. You’ll first want to stop your server, then toggle the setting for hardcore.

Stop your server.

Access the Settings page in Prisma (under the “Customize” menu).

Toggle the setting for Hardcore and save your changes.

From here, you can either create a new world, delete your level.dat , or edit the level.dat directly.

What will deleting the level.dat do?

The level.dat file affects quite a few things: world information (seed), spawn points, gamerules, dimension data (like whether or not you’ve killed the ender dragon), active datapacks, game type, and weather.

While the world will appear reset, entities and builds will remain, as well as player data (like your inventory).

How do I delete the level.dat ?

You’ll need to access your active world folder to delete this file.

Stop your server.

Access your server’s File Manager in Prisma (under the “Customize” menu).

Access your active world folder by double-clicking on its line.

Find the file titled level.dat and delete it using the trash icon on its line.

Start your server.

How do I edit the level.dat ?

Editing this file is an advanced process but will result in the least amount of change.

If you are not comfortable opening and modifying files, we recommend deleting this file or starting with a new world. If you’d like to proceed, follow the steps below:

Stop your server.

Access your server’s File Manager in Prisma (under the “Customize” menu).

Access your current world folder by double-clicking on its line.

Find the file titled level.dat and download it to your computer.

Once you’ve downloaded the existing file, rename it in Prisma to level.dat.old or delete it.

Open WebNBT and upload the level.dat file to it.

Using the search function at the top of the NBT Editor, search for hardcore .

Once you’ve located the line for hardcore , edit the number listed to 0 by double-clicking on it and modifying the number text.

Save the change you’ve made by clicking the Save button towards the top-right of the NBT Editor.

Go back to your File Manager in Prisma and upload the modified level.dat to your active world folder (where you originally downloaded it).

Access the Settings page in Prisma (under the “Customize” menu), toggle the setting for Hardcore, save your changes.

Start your server.

If needed, use the gamemode command to update player gamemodes to survival.

Is there any way to bring a player back from death in Hardcore?

While hardcore mode was not designed to allow players to come back from death, you can use the gamemode command to set their gamemode back to survival.

Can I bring a dead player back without using cheats?

Bringing a player back may feel cheaty any way you do it, but if you do not want to use the gamemode command, we may be able to roll back your server. You’ll need to reach out and let us know how far back you’d like to go.

What about the player’s inventory?

Upon death, the player inventory is left on the ground where the player died. If the player wants to regain their items, they’ll need to collect them before they despawn. If the server is restored, the player inventory should remain.
