How to create a logo in adobe illustrator

By Daniel Kim

What you’ll need

Now try it yourself

Create a new Illustrator document: From the Create a new file menu choose Postcard. The steps below show you how to create the Owls logo from scratch. If you are stuck, you can always use the sample file as an aid.

Note: Use the little arrows on top of the toolbar to reduce it.

1. Choose the Rectangle tool, then click and drag to draw a rectangle.

2. Choose the Direct Selection tool and draw a marquee around the lower left corner only to select this specific corner. Click and drag the little circle with the dot – the corner rounding widget – to change the corner’s roundness to create the first part of your owl’s body shape. Repeat this step for changing the roundness of the upper left and upper right corner.

3. Switch to the Selection tool, then click on your drawing and Option-drag on Mac or Alt-drag on Windows to duplicate the shape.

4. With the copy selected, open the Transform panel (Window – Transform) and select Scale Corners, then Shift-drag a corner handle to scale, and drag to reposition it.

5. Choose the Ellipse tool and Shift-drag to draw circles for the eye.

6. Use the Selection tool and draw a rectangle around the eye shapes to select them, then Option/Alt-drag to duplicate them all at once.

7. With the eye copy still selected, go to ObjectTransformReflect. Then choose Vertical to create the other eye of the owl.

8. Scale up the innermost circle of the right eye. Shift-click to select the two inner circles of the right eye, then choose the Shape Builder tool. Hold the Option (Mac) or Alt (Win) key, while dragging the unwanted shape parts away. This will subtract the overlaying parts of the shapes and create a crescent.

9. Use the Ellipse tool to draw a circle over the lower part of the owl’s body. Reposition it with the Selection tool if necessary.

10. Use the Selection tool and Shift-click to select the owl’s outline and the circle. Choose the Shape Builder tool. Hold the Option (Mac) or Alt (Win) key, while dragging the area where the body and circle intersect, to subtract the selected objects.

11. Choose the Selection tool and Shift-click to select all the shapes you’d like to be filled with black colour.

12. Make sure that the fill colour is in the foreground and set to black. To swap between stroke and fill colour use the double arrow icon above the swatches.

13. Click the owl’s wing to select it, then go to the Swatches panel to pick a different fill colour for the wing.

That’s it! Now it’s your turn to create a logo in 60 seconds with Illustrator. Download the assets or use your own and share your image on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #MadewithIllustrator to get feedback and connect with other creative minds.

Logo templates have all sorts of uses: speeding up a project, inspiring a small business, or even being excellent for product mock-ups. Whatever your reason for downloading a logo template, let’s break down some of the basic ways in which to customize them in Adobe Illustrator CC and CorelDRAW.

1. Downloading and Locating the Logo Template

Step 1

First things first: we need to download the logo template file. I’ll be using a logo called SphereCube, which I purchased on GraphicRiver.

Once your file is downloaded, unzip the folder. If your OS is Windows, Right-Click the zipped folder and hit Extract All, and if you’re on a Mac, Double-Click the folder to extract its contents.

Once decompressed, you’ll find the folder has some files. This logo template has three types: AI, EPS, and PSD. We’ll be working with the AI files for this tutorial.

Step 2

Let’s start with one of the simplest AI files in the logo folder: spherecube_black_white_single_color.ai. Open it in Adobe Illustrator and check out your two options in the Layers panel: black on white or white on black.

2. Easily Changing the Logo’s Color

Step 1

Select the aperture shape and either double-click the Fill color in the Toolbar to bring up the Color Picker, or modify the color of the object from your Swatches or Color panels.

Step 2

Your new logo’s color is an easy change, especially when it’s a simple object and you’re looking for a flat fill color as your change.

Step 3

You can also select each individual object with the Direct Selection Tool (A) and change their fill colors or add a gradient if that’s your preference.

3. Recoloring the Logo Template

Step 1

Let’s open a different logo template from the file. I opted for spherecube_Green.ai, which has gradient shapes versus flat filled shapes. While you can change the color of the logo in the Gradient panel, let’s use an alteration method that may be your go-to for editing templates that are more complex than this: Recolor Artwork.

Step 2

Select your logo group and go to Edit > Edit Colors > Recolor Artwork. Both colors in the gradient will be shown under Current Colors. Double-Click the swatch under New and select a new color for each. In this case I’ve chosen pink and dark pink. Make sure Recolor Art is selected and hit OK once satisfied with your color changes.

Step 3

The nice thing about using the Recolor Artwork panel is that the more complex your object or artwork is, the easier it is to change its colors without messing up any effects, gradients, or other appearance attributes.

Step 4

You can also match any type or additional objects to your logo’s colors. In the case of this type object, simply highlight portions with the Type Tool (T) and select colors from the Color or Swatches panel as you would any other type.

This works because the type wasn’t converted to outlines. Any text that has been converted to an outline can be recolored like any other object.

4. Editing Logo Templates in CorelDRAW

Step 1

Open the AI file of your choice in CorelDRAW. EPS files won’t render in the same way, so your best bet is to simply import an Adobe Illustrator file from the downloaded logo template.

Step 2

Select your logo object, and in the Object Properties docker you can change the Fill attributes under Fill. In this case, I’ve selected Fountain Fill and will simply select each color on either side of the gradient to change them.

Make sure you stick with the tone of the previous gradient: lighter colors should remain lighter and darker colors should remain darker, so that the logo’s shadows look similar.

Step 3

Select text with the Text Tool and edit it in the Object Properties docker. In this case I’ve selected the word “Cube” and will change the Uniform Fill from green to blue to better match the logo design.

Great Job, You’re Done!

In this quick tutorial we downloaded a logo template and learned how to edit its colors and attributes in both Adobe Illustrator CC and CorelDRAW. You’ll find thousands of logo templates online from sites like GraphicRiver, and knowing how to edit them for your needs is a great start to speeding up your design process and making the best out of stock assets.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

This year, many people were under the impression that everything was going to be 3D. We have 3D TV’s, 3D movies, even 3D smart phones. To bond with that idea, it is a good skill to have as a graphic designer, web designer, or if you just want to get more familiar with Adobe Illustrator and all of the great options it offers for creators and designers alike. There are many ways that you can use Adobe Illustrator to manipulate text and shapes to appear 3D. Of course, there is always the actual 3D option in Photoshop, but sometimes it is good to know that you can create a 3D illusion without it, building your experience with Illustrator, Photoshop, even when using these ideas in actual sketches for logos! Today, we will review a few great tutorials on how to create a 3D logo design.

NDesign-Studio

This tutorial shows just how easy it is to create 3D text, graphs, charts, and shapes that will allow you to have the necessary tools to be able to create any 3D logo you want. Tutvid

Most of the other tutorials found on 3D logos are all videos. Although these may be different than a tutorial that has been written out successfully, it may be beneficial to give video learning a try. This way, especially with this particular tutorial video, you can see every single step in real time, while the person who created the tutorial talks you through it. If it’s going too fast, you can always pause it. Besides that, especially for a 3D logo like this one, which appears to be extremely professional in nature and quality, a video based tutorial experience may even be better than the normal type of tutorial that is written, in order to allow the audience to retain all the information quickly and easily, without missing any steps that possibly some newbies might miss on the first try. Moreover, this video also teaches many skills to learn on Adobe Illustrator within the tutorial that can be helpful in different situations as a graphic designer or web designer. Either way, for a completely free tutorial that helps you create something you can potentially build a career off of is extremely valuable, and the microcosm of information that is at our fingertips is something to take advantage of as a freelancer.

Step by step instructions allow anyone to easily follow this tutorial and create professional, high quality logos.

Graphic Tweaks

Much like the video above, this YouTube channel called Graphic Tweaks explains in a shorter video (about eight minutes) how to draw and create your own custom 3D logo. This allows for creativity to flow, and lowers the chances of any new and budding freelance artists or graphic designers to simply copy another designers’ idea. This happens way too often in the design world, and it is helpful to be able to see other designers encouraging others to come up with their own unique ideas, as well as teaching them simultaneously. Like any other tutorial, this video goes in depth when it comes to a unique design without using previously created shapes and whatnot. Besides this, it is able to condense all of the information quickly and easily into a shorter video, making it more likely to be clicked on. People nowadays want everything fast, and this video caters to that demographic.

A step by step tutorial that is quick and easy, as well as professional and has interesting monochromatic colors that are perfect for any logo.

Clever Mark

This tutorial is probably one of my favorites. This is because I believe this is the tutorial that takes into account time, quality, and doesn’t skimp on details, while still keeping the video entertaining, educational, and easy to follow. These are the key components when creating any tutorial, and these unique logo designs created in Adobe Illustrator are nothing short of professional, interesting, color versatile, and appears complete. In the video, you get many close up shots in which the person who is leading the tutorial is able to take care of every minuscule detail, while in the process teaching others that the small details are important. Without relying on the smaller details to help make your design feel and look complete, any design would just always look like it’s missing a little something. Here, we learn new techniques, focus on the small details, and in the process become able to design a 3D logo that is sure to catch anyone’s eye.

Adobe Illustrator isn’t a 3D rendering program, so to create anything 3D in Illustrator requires that you simply draw it to look 3D.

How to draw something in 3D really isn’t a topic specific to any particular drawing software, you just have to understanding some fundamentals of drawing. things like shading, color, shadows, gradients, highlights, etc.

I’m not good in illustrator, but I believe you can. I just drew an image almost the same as the one above using illustrator to prove that it’s possible.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

In the first three images, the sphere was achieved using gradient feature.

  • Draw Circle
  • Gradient tool (G) (be sure to select the object)
  • Click Gradient (right side pannel along with the swatch/layers)
  • Select Radial in the selection
  • Change the desired color (at least 2 colors)
  • Click again the Gradient tool (G) to move the shadow or adjust the depth (you will see a control that you can play with after clicking this again)

For the fourth image from the left, follow the steps above (just change the color to blue and apply shadow: Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow. Just play the x-offset and y-offset, be sure to tick “preview” to see actual change.

Now for the 3D objects using other method:

  • Select the object
  • Effect > 3D > Extrude & Bevel
  • Make sure to tick the “preview to see effect immediately”
  • Set the position (for that image, I think that was “Front”
  • You can play with it’s depth, surface, and perspective (you can just drag the image in the dialog box using your mouse to position your object’s perspective.

If you’ve created a logo with Logaster, you might want to download it in AI file format. For two main reasons: to modify the logo in Adobe Illustrator after downloading it from our site, or to print a logo on branded products. Printing will most often require the file format of AI. Keep in mind that Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor. Therefore, it is essential to save the file as AI, which is a vector format, after working in Illustrator and this will make it compatible with another vector format – PDF.

Step by step instructions on how to get your logo in AI file format

The steps are very simple. First, you need to download the logo in PDF format from your Logaster account. Vector files (including PDF) are available in the S package. If you have an XS package, then you can upgrade it to S, here’s more information on how to do that in our article . First, log in to your Logaster account.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator Choose the brand you need and go to the logo page.

Download the logo in PDF format.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

After that, there are two options for converting your logo file from PDF to AI: using Adobe Illustrator directly or using an online format converter.

Adobe Illustrator

Open Illustrator. Go to “File > Open” to upload the logo in PDF.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

After that, go to “File > Save As” and select save as AI format to save the logo on your computer.

Online file format converter

You can also use the online file format converter online-converting.com . To do this, you need to upload your logo file to this website.

Choose AI as the format to convert and click the convert button.

After that, simply download the file to your computer and open Adobe Illustrator for further edit or send it to print shops for printing. If you need a business card in AI format as well, the steps are similar, the only difference is that you will have to convert two files which are the front and back side of your business card.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

Hello everyone, this is Chris from Spoon Graphics back with another video tutorial for Adobe Illustrator Today we’re going to create a vector polygon style logo graphic that’s made up of numerous shapes, each with a gradient fill which gives it a faceted diamond kind of appearance

I’m using the image of a wolf’s head in this tutorial, but the same process can be used to create all kinds of abstract graphics So let’s get started and I’ll show you how it’s done! Begin by opening up Adobe Illustrator and create a new file I’m just using a standard A4 sized document since you can resize vector artwork to whatever you need anyway Find a reference photo online to give yourself an aid for tracing a realistic outline, then go to File > Place Scale the image to fit within the document, then grab the Pen tool

Clear out the default white fill to leave just a black stroke Begin tracing around your subject extremely loosely, using just single clicks to make straight lines Follow the outline right back to the first point and join it to form an enclosed path Then delete the reference image Despite being traced from a real photo, adjusting the path to produce a more stylised outline can actually make a more recognisable graphic

Use the Direct Selection tool to select points of the path and move them around to tweak the overall shape Next, go to the View menu and turn on Smart Guides These green tooltips will help you find and snap to the anchor points on the path Select the Line tool, then begin drawing lines between corner points on opposite sides of the graphic outline You don’t have to draw lines between all points

Keep an eye on the overall appearance and add new lines to split up any large segments As more lines are added, watch out for the segments being split into too smaller sections Sometimes it’s worth leaving certain lines out to keep the segments at similar sizes, without the graphic getting too detailed Draw a selection around all the lines and paths, then open up the Pathfinder panel Click the Divide button in the lower left to split the paths into individual shapes wherever the lines intersect

Right click the object and select Ungroup to break it apart, then switch the fill and stroke around to fill all the shapes with black Select the rectangle tool and draw a temporary square somewhere on the artboard Hold the Shift and Alt keys while dragging the shape vertically downwards to duplicate it Press the shortcut CMD+D to repeat the transformation to create a third shape Select the first shape, then give it a gradient fill

In the Swatches panel, find the preset swatch group with a range of black tints, then drag the darkest one onto the first gradient handle Skip a tint swatch, but drag the next lightest into the other gradient handle Repeat the process with the next shape, but this time use the next grey tint, followed by one two steps lighter Repeat it again for the third shape, creating an even lighter gradient of light greys Hold the Shift key and begin selecting 4 or 5 shapes from within the main graphic

Switch over to the Eyedropper tool then click the first of those gradient boxes to loads its fill onto these shapes Go to Object > Lock > All to avoid accidentally selecting these shapes again Hold the CMD key to toggle the selection tool back on, then while also holding Shift, select another batch of shapes Release the CMD key to toggle back to the eyedropper in order to sample the mid-grey gradient Another shortcut to try out is CMD+2, which saves you from navigating to the Lock option in the menu

Select another random bunch of shapes and apply the light grey gradient Lock the items then continue the process as you cycle through these three gradients until all the shapes have been covered When you’re done, go to Object > Unlock All to make everything selectable again Go through and alter the fill of any shapes that might have grouped together to spread out the contrast across the graphic Select the top most shape from the graphic and use the Gradient tool to alter the gradient flow by dragging over the shape

Hold the CMD key to toggle the select key in order to select the next shape down, then randomly alter the flow of the gradient in a different direction Repeat the process throughout the whole graphic, selecting and reorienting the gradient in a random direction each time This step will give the overall design a much more interesting faceted appearance than having all the gradients flowing in the same direction The final result makes a great looking abstract graphic that works particularly well when used as part of a logo design You can also try out this effect with a wide range of different colours to create nice vibrant designs, or maybe even replicate a diamond appearance even further by using bright whites and light blues

So I hope you enjoyed this latest video tutorial for Adobe Illustrator If you want to see more you can always check out my Illustrator Tutorials playlist or see more video tutorials for Photoshop too on my channel Stop by over at my website at SpoonGraphics for more written design tutorials and free resources, otherwise thank you very much for watching and I’ll see you in the next one!

Discover how to create visually interesting layouts with two sets of text in this Adobe Illustrator typography tutorial.

Typography is an art in and of itself; the practice of arranging various font styles, assigning color, and establishing an interaction amongst text elements impacts how viewers perceive the whole design. As you advance in your design abilities, you’ll start to think about how the letterforms work together instead of simply typing out a phrase and placing it on your design.

There are many techniques you can use to spice up a headline or a simple phrase.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

In this Adobe Illustrator typography tutorial, you’ll learn how to overlap and weave letterforms together to create intertwined text.

Step 1: Pick Two Contrasting Fonts

Begin by searching for a contrasting font pair with styles on the opposite ends of the spectrum. I find that combining a sans serif style with a script style works well. The juxtaposition of a heavy, monoweight style and a dynamic script always looks interesting.

Not sure where to source budget-friendly fonts? Check out our list of free font resources.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

Now that you’ve found varying type styles, think of the actual words you might use in this typographic layout. Words with a similar amount of characters work in an overlapping format; the phrase “make waves” fits the bill.

Type out each word using the Type tool in Illustrator. Use the bold sans serif font on the first word, as this will be the base layer.

Step 2: Place Phrase on Top

Overlap the phrases by moving their text boxes and bring the lighter script style to the front with Shift + Command + ]. Then create a new layer within the Layers panel and bring the top phrase to the second layer.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

Find a unique interaction between the phrases, tilting the top path if necessary. Then, convert your text paths to vectors by navigating to Object > Expand.

When choosing color palettes to use for your typographic layout, think of the context of the design, along with how the words might read. Darker hues will retreat to the background, while lighter hues have the spotlight. Experiment with various color swatches or manipulate the RGB or CMYK sliders within the Color menu.

Step 3: Remove Overlaps

To create an intertwined typographic layout, we’re going to reconfigure how the letterforms interact. Find the overlapping portions of each letterform and consider which pieces should be removed. Only remove portions that do not impact legibility.

Select the top layer of the phrase with the Selection Tool (V) and then activate the Eraser Tool with Shift + E. You can reduce the transparency of the top layer to guide the removal process.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

Drag the eraser across portions that are being removed to get a glimpse of how the typographic layout appears. Adjust the size of your eraser with [ to decrease and ] to increase. Undo your actions with Command + Z if necessary. Don’t worry about complete accuracy at this point, but keep your eraser within overlapping areas.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

Within the Pen Tool (P) dropdown, activate the Add Anchor Point Tool (+) and map out the exact point of overlap on the top layer. Delete excess anchor points with the Delete Anchor Point Tool (-), then adjust individual bezier curves by holding down the Option key and dragging the blue handles.

Step 4: Add Dimension with Gradients

Gradients will add highlights and shadows to the text, simulating a three-dimensional layout while transforming the look and feel of a flat vector design.

Begin by duplicating the top layer within the Layers panel by holding down the Option key, then dragging upwards until you see a blue line. Select the newly copied layer with the Selection Tool (V), then ungroup all elements with Shift + Command + G.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

Erase and delete the portions of each letterform that do not border the bottom phrase. Select the remaining portions, then open the Gradient Tool (G) to adjust the transition of color. Drag the fill color to the gradient slider, then copy the color by holding down the Option key and dragging across. Delete the default black hue and select the duplicated slider and adjust its hue with the RGB sliders.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

The key to a natural gradient is to create a subtle transition between two or three colors. Drastic changes in color may appear harsh when applied to vector shapes. When you’ve found a gradient that works with your composition, use the Eyedropper Tool (I) to apply the same gradient to the remaining shapes. Adjust the angle and direction of your gradient as needed.

Adding the Depth

Now that we have a gradient, so we are ready to use Transform effect to add the depth and 3-dimensional look. Head over to the fx icon and bring up the drop-down menu with the Distort&Transform/Transform option.

In opened dialog box specify these parameters:

  • Horizontal scale 99.8%
  • Vertical move: 1px
  • Copies: 11

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

Please note: there is no limit in the number of copies. The higher the number the more extrusion depth you introduce to the text.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

The text is a pure gold now, but it looks a bit unnatural without a shadow.

Shadow

All the shadows are applied to the third fill, do keep it selected and click on the fx icon under the Appearance panel to bring up the effects drop-down. Select the shadow effect and set the parameters as they are shown in the image below.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

So, for the first shadow set:

  • Opacity: 74%
  • X-offset: 0px
  • Y-offset: 1px
  • Blur: 0px

This combination gives you a one pixel tint in the bottom of the text.

For the second shadow set:

  • Opacity: 33%
  • X-offset: 0px
  • Y-offset: 8px
  • Blur: 0px

It was a final step. We are done. Thanks for reading that far. Now you know how to turn any text to the gold. Although silence is golden, let me know if you have any questions in the comments below.

Cool mascots are found all over the web and usually represent companies like design firms and restaurants.

If you’ve ever seen one of these fun cartoon characters, I’m sure you’ve asked yourself, “How can I create a cool character like that?” Well I’m here to show you!

But before we jump into Adobe Illustrator, let’s get some quick inspiration:

First things first… grab some paper, a pencil and start doodling fun characters from your mind.

After a little brainstorming, I came up with this:

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

Put the sketch into Adobe Illustrator using File > Place (of course you need to scan your sketch in).

Double click on the Layer with the sketch and set it to Template in the Layer Options palette. Then:

  1. Dim the image between 10 to 20%.
  2. Or you can make it transparent by reducing the Opacity numbers.

This will allow you to see the Path lines you create.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

Set the Pen Tool to No Fill with a stroke of 0.25 pt, so we can ‘path’ each section with it.

If you are not familiar with the Pen Tool then check out this article, “Turning sketches into vector art with the Pen Tool.”

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

After you’ve outlined your shape, copy and paste it in front then make it slightly smaller than the original shape. The original shape will act as an outline when you fill both with color.

Continue making other shapes such as the eyes, nose and mouth. Once you’ve built most of the shapes, fill each section with base colors. For example, I’ve used a base color of brown.

Below is an example of the sub-layers:

Continue using the same steps as above for each section. And don’t forget to create a new layer for each part!

His images from this period, taken from January 2017 onwards, reveal the intense atmosphere in the capital’s best-known entertainment district and pick out the details that show a juxtaposition between the Soho of today and the faded character of its past. What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the word ‘Coca-Cola’? A polar bear? A glass of delicious bubbling beverage? Or maybe, those famous swirly white letters against a red background?

Try the same for Google. What do you see? The Google homepage with its blue and yellow and red colors, of course!

That’s the power of logos. Even though Google makes a ton of products, you don’t think of vast data centers and offices filled with programmers when you think of Google. No, you think of Google the brand with its slightly eccentric and nerdy logo. Same goes for Coca-Cola. Even though Coca-Cola actually sells a beverage you drink almost every day, your first thought when was of the company’s logo.

Designing logos is an exercise in narration. A great logo tells a story – what is the brand? What is it about? What are its ideals – in as few brush strokes as possible. Google’s nonchalant disregard for conventional logo designs (the logo was hacked together by Sergey and Larry and has remained the same for 15 years) immediately tells you that this company is different. It doesn’t care about the status quo. The Coca-Cola logo, on the other hand, has remained unchanged for over a century. It’s an instrument of nostalgia that gently reassures you – whatever else might change, your favorite beverage is going to remain the same, no matter what.

Designing a logo is the first step in building a business. You can learn more about designing logos in this comprehensive logo design for beginners course.

In this blog post, we will learn how to design a simple logo for the world’s favorite fictional company, Acme Corporation.

What We Will Make

We will use Adobe Photoshop CS6 for this tutorial, though you’ll be perfectly fine with older versions of Photoshop as well.

Want to use Adobe Illustrator? Learn how to use Adobe Illustrator to design logos in this course.

Step 1: Create a New Document

Go to File -> New, or press CTRL+N in Photoshop. Select the appropriate width and height for your design. I like to have a large enough canvas to work with – around 1000px width and 600px height. You can always change canvas size later.

Step 2: Create the Basic Shape

To create the effect that we want, we will make our ‘A’ with two overlapping shapes as shown below:

We’re going to use the ‘Pen’ tool to create our shapes. It’s the pen shaped icon on the toolbox to the left.

Now create a new layer. Name it Shape 1. Select the pen tool, select ‘shape’ in the tool properties at the top. Choose a bright red color for the fill (I used #ed1c24).

It’s useful to switch on the grid while drawing. Go to View -> Show -> Grid, or press CTRL + ‘. Create the shape as shown below:

For the second shape, instead of drawing it from scratch, we can simply duplicate the Shape 1 layer and flip it horizontally.

Select the current shape in the layers window on the right. Right click on it and select ‘Duplicate Layer’. Name the new layer Shape 2 you want.

Now select the duplicate layer, go to Edit -> Transform Path -> Flip Horizontal

You should have the following shape now:

Drag it over to the right so that it overlaps the first shape perfectly as shown in the images above.

Step 3: Change Colors

Since we want to create an overlapping ‘Origami’ like effect, we will make one of our shape layers slightly darker in color to give the impression of depth.

Double-click on the Shape 2 thumbnail in the Layers window. The color selection pane should pop-up.

Select a slightly darker shade of red. I choose #b00309

While you’re at it, drag the Shape 1 layer on top of the Shape 2 layer in the Layers window as well, such that Shape 2 appears to be behind Shape 1.

Step 4: Creating the Shadow

Duplicate the Shape 1 layer as described above. Name it Shadow Layer Change the color of this new layer to black (#000000). Go to Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur. Choose a radius of 2.75 pixels. Your image should look like this now:

Now drag the Shadow Layer underneath Shape 1 in the Layers window. Right click on Shadow Layer and select ‘Create Clipping Mask’

Your image logo should now have the nice shadow effect.

Step 5: Add the Text

We’ll now add text to our logo. Unfortunately, the default Windows font selection isn’t exactly too great. So instead of using tired, stale fonts like Arial, we’ll head over to Google Fonts and download a bunch of new, modern fonts.

For this project, I recommend downloading Raleway. This is just a personal preference though. You can choose any one of the hundreds of free fonts on Google Fonts. Some of my personal favorites are:

Once you’ve installed the Raleway font (extract the downloaded .zip file and double-click on the font-name to install automatically), head over to the ‘Type’ tool in the toolbox and add your text.

I choose Raleway with font-weight of ‘bold’ and a font-size of 200px. Feel free to experiment with this if you want.

Place the text below the logo. For a bit of extra effect, add a drop shadow to the text. Right click on the text layer, select ‘Blending Options’. In the window that pops up, choose ‘Drop Shadow’ and pick the following parameters:

Step 6: Add a Background Gradient

This is the final step to give our logo a bit of dramatic flair.

Click the ‘Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer’ button at the bottom of the Layers Window.

Choose ‘Gradient’. In the window that pops up, select ‘Radial’ under Style. Make sure to check the ‘Reverse’ option at the bottom.

Now, double click on the gradient color in the window. The gradient edit window will pop up. Play around with the colors and settings for a while until you find something you like.

As a final step, drag your gradient layer below all the other layers in the Layers window, which should look like this:

Your logo is now complete!

Next Steps

Designing a logo takes a lot more than learning a few Photoshop techniques. This course will teach you everything you needed to know about creating your own logos, from creating concept sketches to realizing final drawings.

In this tutorial, we’re going to learn how to create a neon text effect in Adobe Illustrator.

The Steps (1-8)

1. Create a New Document.

2. Select the Rectangle Tool, Left-click and Drag to draw a four-sided shape that covers the entire Width and Height of the artboard. Set the colour of this shape to black #000000.

3. Select the Text Tool, Left-click anywhere on the artboard, type your text, and select a font of your choice.

4. Ensure that the text has a Fill colour of pink #E6007E, and go to Type > Create Outlines to convert the text into a shape.

5. With the text selected, go to Object > Path > Offset Path, and set a minus/negative offset value (-5 for this tutorial) and click OK. The aim here is to create a copy of the text that is actually thinner, and fits inside of the original letters.

6. Give these thinner letters a lighter pink colour #EC8CC8.

7. Next, select the darker pink letters and go to Effect > Blur > Gaussian Blur, and specify a value that gives a pink glow around each of the letters. Adjust the blur value depending on how much of a glow you would like around your letters.

8. You can also add a small amount of blur to the thinner light pink text too, in order to help it blend together with the other blurred letters more effectively (optional).

Create a logo that makes your mark with Adobe Illustrator. Packed with the features you need to tackle any logo design you can imagine, Illustrator frees you up to follow your inspiration.

Design the logo of your dreams.

Take your logo idea from the cocktail napkin to reality with the most versatile vector graphics software on the market. Discover how Illustrator gives you the flexibility to design logos that make an impression.

Shape your creation.

Manipulate and combine geometric shapes with precision. Using the Pathfinder and Shapebuilder tools, your logo can look as unique and memorable as you envision.

Start with a roadmap.

Not sure where to begin? Select your perfect logo starting point from a library of fonts — ranging from fun to professional — and then create something entirely your own.

Capture every idea.

Take your concepts from physical to digital with ease. Scan drawings and sketches using Adobe Capture to kick off your logo design — a feature only available with Illustrator.

Keep your colors true.

No matter the medium, make a logo that pops. Design in Pantone or CMYK, so your colors stay true wherever you work, even with complex color separation.

Flexible tools at your fingertips.

When an idea strikes, you want to roll quickly from inception to creation so you can share your work. With Adobe Stock assets and integrated fonts, Illustrator helps you seamlessly bring your creative vision to life.

Focus on font.

The right font and style can make or break your logo. Preview and activate over 16,000 fonts with Adobe Font Integrations, without ever leaving the Illustrator app.

In this Adobe Illustrator tutorial we will cover the techniques of creating “liquid” objects with the help of the Dynamic Sketch Tool, part of the DrawScribe plugin, plus the Blend Tool. This tutorial includes detailed instructions and interesting tricks that will allow you to succeed in creating this kind of style.

Step 1

Take the Type Tool (T) and create the letters of our logo.

These letters will be used as a template in the future, so lock them in the Layers panel. Of course in this tutorial you can reproduce your logo — the techniques described below are suitable for all shapes.

Step 2

Now take the Dynamic Sketch Tool, which is one of the tools of the DrawScribe plugin and open its panel (Window > DrawScribe > Dynamic Sketch panel). Enable the “Edit or continue existing paths” mode and set the value of Accuracy and Smoothness. Choose a random fill color and set 50% opacity for it in the Transparency panel in order to be able to see the template of the logo in the process of drawing. Now create the outer outline of the first letter.

You do not have to closely follow the outline of the template, as we are dealing with a liquid logo, you just need to reproduce the basic proportions of the letter. Neither do you need to focus on the created shape, as it will be edited in the future.

Step 3

Create an inner outline of the letter using Dynamic Sketch Tool with the same settings.

For the filling, I chose a different color for clarity. Select both created shapes and click on the Minus Front button in the Pathfinder panel (Window > Pathfinder).

As a result of these actions we get a Compound Path.

Adobe Illustrator is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful and comprehensive image editing programs out there. It is among the pricier options as well. Many professional and amateur graphic designers and artists use it on a daily basis. But for all its power, Illustrator doesn’t have a built-in watermark feature.

How to Create a Logo in Adobe Illustrator

However, artists willing to protect their work have found a few ways to circumnavigate this issue. In this article, we’ll inspect the most popular and easiest way to make a watermark in Adobe Illustrator.

Since there is no option to add a watermark to your images in Adobe Illustrator, you’ll have to make one yourself. Luckily, it is not that hard to do and takes only a few minutes. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1

First, you’ll have to open a new file or create one from scratch. You can choose whether you want to create it in a separate file and import it or create it directly over the image you want to watermark.

Launch Illustrator and click on the File tab in the main menu. Next, click on the Open… option in the drop-down menu if you want to create a watermark directly over an existing file. Select the New option if you want to make your watermark in a blank file.

Step 2

In this step, you should open the textbox where you’ll type the text of your watermark. To do that, select the Type tool. You can find it in the toolbar on the left-hand side of the Illustrator’s window. Click on the Letter T and select the Type Tool option from the drop-down menu.

Step 3

Next, you should activate the text box. To do that, you should click anywhere on your image. It doesn’t matter where you click, as you’ll be able to reposition and resize the box later. Clicking near the top-left corner is always a good idea.

Step 4

When the text box opens, type in the text you’d like to see as your watermark. Some of the typical watermark text options include “Confidential,” “Sample,” “Don’t Touch,” and “Draft.” You can use one of them or you can come up with your own. Of course, you can write a longer text, as well. In such cases, it is common to go with the “Lorem ipsum” sequence.

Step 5

In this step, you should select the text box. To do so, pick the Selection arrow from the menu on the left side of the Illustrator window. It is located near the top of the menu. Now, click on the text box to select it.

Step 6

Now, it’s time to edit your text. That’s where the menus at the top of the window come into play.

You can use the Character menu to change the font of the text. In the drop-down menu to its right, you can select whether you want your text to appear as bold, italic, or normal. The next option to the right lets you select the size you want. Have in mind that the bigger the text is, the easier it is to spot.

You can also change the color of the watermark text. To do so, click on the Color window. It is located in the upper-right corner. Finally, you can change the watermark’s angle. Just click on the rotate tool (vertical toolbar on the left side).

Step 7

It is time to position your watermark. Pick the Selection arrow from the menu on the left and click on your text box. This selects the text as an object. Move your watermark to the desired position on the canvas.

Step 8

In this step, you should set the opacity for your watermark. You can find the Opacity option in the top menu bar. You can click on the arrow next to it and select one of the pre-determined values. Alternatively, you can click on the box and enter your own custom value. It is generally recommended to keep opacity below 15%.

Step 9

Let’s place your watermark on top of your image. Click on the Object tab in the Main menu. Next, select the Arrange option from the drop-down menu. In the side menu, select the Bring to Front option (the keyboard shortcut is Shift + Ctrl + ])

Step 10

Now that your image is watermarked, it is time to lock and save it. To do that, you should click on the Select tab in the Main menu. Next, pick the All option in the drop-down menu.

Now click on the Object tab in the Main menu. When the drop-down menu opens, find and click on the Lock option. This will open a side menu. Click on the Selection option in the side menu (the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl + 2).

After that, you should click on the File tab in the main menu. When the drop-down menu opens, you should click on the Export option and then on Export As.

Give your watermarked image a name and select the file type. Commonly used extensions include JPEG, CSS, TIFF, and PNG. You can also save it as a PSD (Photoshop file) if you intend to work on it in Photoshop in the future.

Step 11

Next, click on the Export button. You will then see a window with the basic settings. You’ll be able to adjust the color mode (RGB is default), quality (size) of the file, resolution, compression method, and anti-aliasing. When you’re satisfied with the settings, click on the OK button. If you’ve picked the JPEG format, your image will be saved as a single-layer image file.

Protect Your Work

Placing a watermark on your original images is among the easiest and most effective ways to protect them. Even though there isn’t a native option to add one, it can easily be created and added to a photo.
