Galtier to PSG; Ex-Lille Manager confirmed boss of the French Champions

After the sacking of Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino, PSG have confirmed the signing of ex-Lille boss Christophe Galtier as their head coach for the upcoming season, as reported by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The former French international has signed a deal until 2024. He has replaced ex-Spurs manager Maurucio Pochettino, who has been sacked following the conclusion of the 2021/22 league campaign, where he led the team to their 10th league championship overall.

Paris Saint-Germain confirm that Mauricio Pochettino has ended his role at the Club.

Christophe Galtier’s Career So Far

After a journeyman career as a player, Galtier was appointed as Saint-Etienne assistant manager in 1999.

After being Alain Perrin’s assistant coach at multiple teams across the world, he was appointed the first team manager fo Saint-Etienne in 2009. In his first season, he saved the club from relegation, finishing 17th in the 2009/10 season. At Saint-Etienne, he finished in the top ten for seven consecutive seasons, including four European campaigns. His most notable accomplishment at Sainté was winning the Coupe de la Ligue, which ended the club’s 32-year trophy drought.

After leaving the club in 2017, he was appointed head coach of LOSC Lille in December 2017 to try and save the club from relegation into Ligue 2. Not only did he keep them from relegation, but he also got them into the UEFA Champions League the following season, finishing 2nd in the league and ending their 7-year absence from Europe’s most prestigious competition.

Galtier’s Les Dogues won the league during the 2020–21 season, giving them their fourth overall and first league crown in 10 years, for which he was named Ligue 1 Manager of the Year for a third time. He left the club following that campaign, citing that his time at the club was done.

Christophe was appointed as the new head coach of fellow French outfit OGC Nice for the 2021/22 season. He led Les Aiglons to a 5th place finish and a Coupe de France final, which they lost 1-0 to Nantes. He left the club following the conclusion of that campaign, being replaced by former Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre.

PSG’s Summer 2022 Transfer Business So Far

Paris Saint German confirmed their latest summer signing a few days ago, signing 22-year-old Portugese midfielder Vítor Ferreira from Porto on a five-year contract for a reported €41.5 million.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, PSG are also in talks to sign Inter Milan defender Milan Škriniar.

There are also talks for Les Parisiens to sign Sassuolo stiker Gianluca Scamacca. They are in a bidding war for the Italian international, with Arsenal also reportedly interested.
