Does FedEx deliver on Labor Day? National holiday affects mail services

By Matthew Martinez

Labor Day is here once again and while many across the United States are celebrating the national holiday, you might be wondering if it’ll cause disruption to your daily running of life.

Labor Day is marked annually on the first Monday in September, recognizing the achievements of America’s labor movement, and this year it falls on 4, September 2023.

As the holiday celebrates America’s workforce, many usual services are interrupted as workers take the day off in celebration. So, if you were expecting mail this September 4, there might be some delays as postal services such as FedEx and UPS are affected.

Does FedEx deliver on Labor Day 2023?

Unfortunately for those hoping to get their deliveries on the first Monday in September, FedEx is not delivering on Labor Day 2023.

According to the company’s holiday schedule, a number of FedEx services will stop operating on Monday, September 4.

FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Home Delivery, FedEx Ground Economy, FedEx Freight, and FedEx Trade Networks will all be closed. The FedEx Office will remain open, however with modified hours. The Custom Critical will remain open as usual, as with all national holidays.

The weekend leading up to Labor Day also sees disruptions to some of the usual services. So, if you haven’t received the post you were anticipating, it could be down to the national holiday.

This is not the only national holiday to disrupt FedEx services

There are only a handful of holidays in the United States which affect FedEx Home Delivery. The holidays which see the home delivery teams close up their doors include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.

FedEx Express services are more disrupted by national holidays, closing on a number of dates throughout the year. FedEx Express closes on Easter Sunday, Sunday before Memorial Day, Memorial Day, July 3rd, Independence Day, Sunday before Labor Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Sunday after Thanksgiving, Sunday before Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Monday after Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and January 2nd.

More postal services to be disrupted on Labor Day

A number of key mail services in the United States were disrupted by the Labor Day holiday this year.

Besides FedEx, USPS and UPS will also stop their usual service on Monday, September 4. All services will be running again from Tuesday, September 5.

The only mail that will be delivered is mail that has been sent via USPS Priority Mail Express, which is delivered 365 days a year.
