Chicago PD Season 10 Images Tease Jesse Lee Soffer’s Return

By Isabella Wilson

New Chicago PD season 10 images tease Jesse Lee Soffer’s return to the NBC procedural, though this time, he won’t be playing Jay Halstead. Ahead of the franchise’s milestone year, news broke out that Soffer was leaving One Chicago. Details regarding the reason for his departure remain unclear, though the announcement was greeted with significant outcry. Nonetheless, Hank Voight’s Intelligence lost one of its most veteran detectives, while Hailey Upton not only lost her partner, but her new husband as well, when Halstead took on a new job in Bolivia. Soffer made his onscreen exit from Chicago PD last fall.

Now, not long after Jay Halstead’s One Chicago departure, a new Chicago PD season 10 image teases Soffer’s return. Check out the image from the actor’s official Instagram account below:

As previously reported, Soffer is returning to direct Chicago PD season 10, episode 16. No narrative details have been released about the outing, but looking at the images shared by the actor himself, it seems like Intelligence operating at full power for whatever case they are working on.

Can Soffer Still Return As Jay Halstead In Chicago PD?

Due to its storytelling nature, cast exits are not anything new for One Chicago. Sadly, Soffer’s Chicago PD exit as Halstead was disappointing. After years of covering up crimes for Intelligence, he supposedly reached his limit, resulting in his decision to leave the police force and return to the army. His absence was meant to be temporary, with him promising Upton that they will be together again. However, that may no longer be the case as he went ahead and secretly extended his stay in Bolivia.

The good thing is, Halstead is confirmed to be alive so far. This means that there will always be a chance for him to return to Chicago and reunite with Upton and the rest of Intelligence. However, there is likely a very slim to no chance of him coming back as a mainstay on Chicago PD. Therefore, if he ever reprises his role as Halstead, it will just be temporary.

Whatever the case may be, seeing Soffer back on set for Chicago PD is a treat considering how beloved he is as Halstead. The fact that he is also able to return means that he left the One Chicago franchise on good terms with all of his co-workers. That being said, it’s still curious what the real reason for his departure is since neither he nor Wolf Entertainment has commented on it as of yet.

Chicago PDseason 10 airs every Thursday on NBC.
