Bettendorf breaks ground on Mark Twain Elementary School

The groundbreaking for the new Mark Twain Elementary School in Bettendorf got under way today.
School board members voted to shut down Thomas Jefferson Elementary in August.
The move was made to save money.
“It’s a great opportunity for all of our kids from both schools to come together at a brand new facility that will enhance opportunity to make a big difference in the lives of kids now and in the future,” Principal Caroline Olson said.
Olson says the old building was getting very old.
She says it was better to build new instead of fixing up the old building.
