Abraham is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and film producer. He is the father of the late singer and composer Selena. He is a native of Texas, born into a devout family. He was born on February 20, 1939 in Corpus Christi, Texas, United States. He is one of six children born to his parents. His father, Abraham Gonzalez Quintanilla, Sr., and his mother, Maria Tereza Calderon, gave birth to him.

His parents were vegetable, fruit and cotton scavengers. He attended Roy Miller High School but dropped out before graduating to pursue a career in the music business. Later that year, in 1957, he joined a band formed by former students in his class. The band’s name was Los Dinos, and he eventually left the band to raise his family. Realizing the potential of his six-year-old daughter Selena, he began teaching her, along with his son Abraham III, to play bass and his next daughter, Suzette, to play the drums.

They later formed the band Selena y Los Dinos. They were able to release six albums from the base. The whole family embarks on a musical adventure together. After Selena’s death in 1955, he served as an executive producer on a film about her life.
