19 amazing Senior Sunday Instagram captions for graduation in 2021-2022
Unklike Throwback Thursday (#TBT) and Happy Hump Day, Senior Sunday doesn’t happen every week.
It happens just once for every high school student in the US, typically some time between the end of May and mid June, when high school seniors graduate – although Senior Sundays seem to roll around a just about every time of year.
Social media is a big part of many high school students’ lives, so it’s understandable that Senior Sunday photoshoots will find their way onto Instagram – and every Senior Sunday Instagram post needs a caption to match.

What and when is Senior Sunday?
For most high school students in the US, senior year, or 12th grade, is the final year of schooling before higher education.
The first through 12th grades of primary and secondary school culminate in graduation ceremonies and the awarding of a diploma or certificate.
But away from the pomp and circumstance of official graduation ceremonies, American graduates have taken to posting their senior pictures – often professionally photographed – on social media. Especially, it seems, on Sundays.
The hashtag #seniorsunday currently has almost 2 million posts on Instagram.
Senior Sunday might mean something different for religious families and graduates
For churchgoing families, Senior Sunday may be more about celebrating high school seniors with their church communities.
It is, writes the Fuller Youth Institute, “the one moment the entire church community comes together to affirm a young person by name” – besides baptism, that is.
And in this context, “when done thoughtfully”, Senior Sunday can “help young people and their families transition into what’s next without feeling abandoned”.
